Council run pool

My children take swimming lessons at our local pool and have done for year. It's £90 for ten weeks for both of them.

They run classes most days I believe. My children's slot is a tue at 6pm. The pool would like to stop these classes and asked if I could change days. That's fine, I gave them a list of what we have free. Non of these days matches up with availability for the swim teacher. They want to refund my remaining money. Gutted. It took the kids a year and a half of being on the waiting list to get in for swimming lessons.

Can they do that or do they have to honour the agreement of the remaining paid lessons?

Thanks:(

  • If yours dates don't match up with the swimming teachers availability, what do you expect them to do?! They have offered you a refund, accept and move on.

I don't know if they can legally do that or not but to be honest it won't really make that much of a difference. 10 weeks of lessons is not going to teach your children to swim, and they don't have to arrange any more sessions for your day. I think you best bet would just be to make sure that your children are at the top of the list of when there becomes a slot free on one of your available days.

I feel for you. I know how long it takes to get a child into swimming lessons.

Many thanks for your post. Not that it was helpful but thanks for your input.
  • The kids have been taking lessons on a tue at 6 for the last year. I pay for the lessons in blocks of ten. My question was if the pool could refund the remaining 4 weeks of lessons or if they would have to provide the service that I have paid for. I just think, if it was due to me wanting to refund the remaining lessons because I didn't want to take the children then they wouldn't refund.
I'm not suggesting that the pool can magic days up. I've given them the option of 5 other days to place the kids in other lessons.

Not helpful because its not what you wanted to hear?

They can no longer do the original time and date. They cant do the only times your available and as such offered you a refund.

What do YOU want them to do?
  • It people like you who give these forums a bad rap. All attitude and no knowledge. If you are unable to answer my question then please don't respond. Do you have nothing better to do than try to start arguments on a public forum? Perhaps you should stick to praise vent and warning's board. You don't require any technical knowledge for that.

    Ive answered your question though!

    - They can no longer do the same time/dates.
    - You supplied other times/dates which they are unable to do.
    - They have offered you a refund for the lessons you cant make.

Again, what more do you want them to do? Im not starting an argument, im asking you a serious question!

I think some reading are needed, for you of course.

They are offering you a refund, there is NOTHING you can do, other than accept the money and look for a new swimming class.

i understand how frustrated you must feel but the point i was trying to make was why waste your time arguing over 4 weeks of lessons they wont suddenly learn to swim in those 4 weeks, much better in my opinion to be understanding about it and get the children at the top of the waiting list again.

But the point is I can make the lessons I've paid for. We, the other parents and I feel that the pool should provide the remaining 4 lessons under the terms and conditions that we paid for them under. That being, tue night, 6pm. I appreciate that they no longer feel able to provide a tue 6pm slot. But they could cancel the slot on completion of this cycle.

Perhaps you are unaware that your email tone is patronising and somewhat aggressive? I'm asking a question via the site that I don't yet know the answer to. When I answer questions for others on this site, which I often do and are thanked for, I always try to be helpful and considerate.
