Just to clarify a couple of points (bit of a numpty with these things...)

The free Kindle library thing for Prime subscribers only works for Kindle devices - not the Kindle app on a tablet/phone?

And the movie/TV access is streaming, rather than something you can download and watch later?

Assuming I've got both these right, I'll not be renewing. I'm not going to buy a Kindle just to 'loan' books when I'm already using my tablet.

And the only time I'd ever think to watch a film, would be if I could download it to my tablet to watch on a train/plane journey.

Free postage on purchases and access to streaming films is a bit of a strange pairing to bundle together, but I'm sure it would be useful for some folk - but I'll not be renewing.

(Having said that, watch me try and make the most of the 'free' stuff until my renewal is up in July, and end up totally addicted :o)

Perhaps if a few more of us voted with our feet instead of just moaning & rolling over, some of these companies would think twice before imposing unfair or unreasonable changes.

Prime has been useful but Lovefilms/Kindle books are of no interest to me. I could have had another year at £49 but even that is a bit steep for an unreliable next day service so I've cancelled the next renewal.

I think Amazon will find they have shot themselves in the foot with this one.

A couple of points defending Amazon:

    1) I know that other places can be cheaper, but then you have to trust the security protocols that are in place. If I buy from Amazon, I only have to trust Amazon's security. That to me is worth paying a little extra.
    2) I see people are saying the Prime service in the US costs $79 so should be approximately £48 here. I don't think that holds true.
Cars that are £30k here are sold for $30k (and not $48k) in the US. People then say how much cheaper the US is than UK. For that reason I think the buying power of 1$ in the US is equivalent to the buying power of £1 in the UK. So in my mind regarding Amazon, the prices are now equivalent.

I have just taken up yet another free trial of Prime. My last one only ended 2 months ago. I shall try the streaming but certainly wouldn't pay for it. I haven't yet found a kindle book that I want in their free lending library either.
  • I was on a trial that finished on 25th Feb - I got charged £49 on 1st March for a year.
  • Can anyone tell me how to get the 5 digit code for a LG TV. Amazon prime won't activate the video streaming without it and LG do not know what I am talking about.
    Anyone help?

Prime is great - we order tons via amazon so my husband, myself and now my dad as a nominated family member all get free delivery. That's worth £79 per year to me. It either works for you or doesn't - depends on how much you use it I guess.

Lovefilm - we were subscribers anyway but Netflix spanks it in every sense. They have upped their game a bit to try and get market share back - Lovefilm (or whatever its new name is) have started commissioning tv series and their range of tv progs on the back catalogue is improving. What REALLY annoys me though is as a subscriber, there seem to be different levels - some are free to watch to all subscribers, some free only to Amazon Prime subscribers and some you still have to rent. Sorry, if I'm paying to subscribe to a streaming service it should just cover everything. End of.

I really liked the Prime service even though it's now usually Stretched to two days. I would be more than happy to continue at the current rate but no way at the dreadful increase.

We've had prime for a few years, but were already considering cancelling as we don't actually buy huge amounts. This increase was the last straw; it'd be cheaper just to pay for the next-days we actually need to be next-day! We've got until August before it expires, so will have time to see if the video really is worth it, but we had free trials of both lovefilm and netflix some time back, and found very little on lovefilm worth watching, whereas we decided to sub to netflix. Having now got access again, impressions are still that it's rubbish.

The app on my Samsung smart TV works this way.

The internet connection needs to be up and running, of course.

The app wants to update itself, let it.

It runs, and shows a code, which is the 5 digit code you are talking about.

Using a browser like Internet Explorer, go to

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/mytv

This will ask you to log in using your Amazon user name and pass word. You log in.

The screen will now ask you for the 5 digit code. Type it in.

There will be a confirmation message that your device is now registered.
