Lovefilm is a truly awful service.
Amazon have lost a Prime member of many years with this change.0 -
I understand Amazon were having problems in the US and needed to raise more profits. However, the way they've done this I think is crazy. If they're abandoning the online shopping and moving over to media then fine but to implement a scheme like this with no consideration to ordinary shoppers I think is stupid.
I've been shopping with Amazon since 1999 and using Prime since 2007. I've bought amazingly thousands of items from them and shudder to think how much that cost me. Once I find someone I can trust and rely on with a good service I tend to stick with them. Now out of principle though, it's not just about a £30 price hike, I shall be cancelling my Prime and shopping elsewhere.
I get the deal for streaming video, which does look good value but as someone who is only interested in shopping I don't see why I should be penalised by this thoughtless change. Don't business get this loyalty concept. I've also had it with my bank, insurance, utility company and so on. All I've changed if they don't respect this. We're not just numbers on a spreadsheet. We have feelings.
So long Amazon and thanks for all the books and DVDs...0 -
Incidentally, to defend Amazon in a couple respects.
From my experience which I know isn't the same as everyone's. I have had nearly 1,000 deliveries out of which only 4 or 5 have gone missing.
Since using Prime I'd say 95% comes the next day except for those I know will be delayed and was warned about when I accept the order.
Not only is this Prime change stupid, they have come up with some crazy ideas recently. Anyone seen the "Prime Air" development. What a waste of money. Anyone with half a brain could see that there are so many obstacles to make this work. Sure it's a nice concept but come on, even the Air Forces can't develop drones that work 100% and they have billions to spend on R & D.0 -
Greg Greeleyfrom Amazon is not being truthful. We are NOT being offered the same deal as in the USA. In the USA film streaming has been added, but at no additional cost! In the USA the cost is still as it was before, $79, which converts to about £47. It would be helpful if Amazon told the truth instead of lying. Also, on the Amazon forums you will see that many customers have complained to Amazon that they cannot use video streaming because their internet connection is not fast enough. Amazons reply, "tough, you will have to pay for it anyway whether you can use it or not." Not a nice way to treat customers, whack on a charge for unwanted services, lie to them then insist that you must pay for services you cannot use.
I have cancelled the auto renewal of my membership, so when it expires in July I will no longer be a prime member.0 -
We've just cancelled our prime renewal as we can't use video streaming even if we wanted to - on a good day we can get about 1.5mb on our broadband. Even Youtube videos are useless and nigh on unwatchable. £30 extra for something we can't use is just too much.
We normally look at Amazon first because we've got Prime but when it expires we'll be looking somewhere else, so they've shot themselves in the foot as far as we are concerned.
We've done the same with our ASDA paygo sims as we can't get decent 3g where we live, Sainsbury's Mobile are the new beneficiaries. SKY will be the next one to go when they "give" me an extra channel or two and arbitrarily increase my subs.
Perhaps if a few more of us voted with our feet instead of just moaning & rolling over, some of these companies would think twice before imposing unfair or unreasonable changes.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Just checked my Prime details on my Amazon account and the price is due to increase to £79 in October so just cancelled renewal. Found Prime very useful especially on the run up to Christmas, as I have no wish to use the Lovefilm streaming I will just have to accept the extended delivery times for the free deliveries.0
-
Prime truly is the only next day delivery service that could be relied upon to take 2-3 days. It got so bad in the run up to Christmas that we cancelled, relying on Super Saver delivery. For all subsequent orders via the 'slower' method, we saved at least a day of waiting :rotfl:
Just another crap bundled package that very few will need or get their moneys worth from.
How long before 'bundled tat' miss-selling makes the MSE newsletter?0 -
New app for the Samsung TV appeared, time stamp says it was updated 26th Feb 2014 at 13:35. The logo now says Amazon/Lovefilm. Registered the TV, and the menus work as it should, but can't play ANYTHING! It just shows the buffering ring circling. At one point, it CRASHED the TV! Fortunately, the TV just switched off and reset itself.
The broadband is running at 36 Mbps Download, and 8.5 Mbps Upload. BBC iPlayer app is playing great in HD, so it's not the TV.
Went back to the PC, which has a HDMI output, so plugged that into the TV. Working fine now, no buffering.
From a quick browse, the free shows are distinctly Sub-Prime.
They try to tempt you by mixing pay content in the search result, so it's vital to set up the 4 digit PIN for authorising purchases.
It's looking like I will be cancelling before 30 days are up.
Not buying a Kindle Fire HD for sure now.0 -
I like how they say the USA have the same deal, yet their Prime sub is $79. That's currently about £47.50 over here. Add VAT on (if that's their excuse) and we get £57.
That's pretty much the most we should be paying. Obviously I'd rather stick to paying £49 because, let's face it, Lovefilm Instant is terrible.0 -
I've had a couple of trials with Prime. The delivery service didn't meet expectations, so I'm glad I wasn't paying for it. There's no way I would pay £80!0
