There are so many variables in play that it could be a host of reasons. Were you actually using RGB Scart on your old box or composite scart? Analogue signals are prone to interference and so did you have a properly shielded cable and keep it away from any mains cables etc? How good is the scaler in your TV -v- the one in the Sky box?

Of cause then there is also the placebo effect, there are those that swear blind that replacing the power cable to their amplifier with a £300 shielded one made a massive improvement in sound quality and there are those that say it sounds identical to the same amp using one from Poundland.

I never did A/B testing when I upgraded to Sky HD as didnt at the time have a HD TV and even if I had my old Sky+ box was connected by Component not Scart as it all goes via the AVR and so the gap between the two would be smaller than with RGB Scart

It's a 55 inch Sony which cost in excess of £1200, I doubt the Tv's scaler was at fault.
The RGB SCART was an expensive version I had previously enjoyed excellent picture from on the old CRT.

No "placebo", the difference was night and day.

    That explains your POV.
