T-Mobile swap to EE

Hi all,
First off - apologies if this has been asked/answered before but I searched and couldn't find much on it.
Basically - I have an iPhone 5C on a T-Mobile contract for £27 a month, and have for about 4 months. I didn't get 4G as it was expensive at the time and not available in my area, I also paid about
£150 up front as I wanted to minimise my monthly cost (and hence how much the phone would cost over the lifetime of the contract).
Now 4G is at a reasonable price (£32.99 for 4G extra and available where I live) I wanted to do the change to this - and phoned 150 last month and after half an hour of being passed about was told that this was unavailable to me and the only tariffs they had (not mentioned anywhere instore or online) were rather pathetic at £41 or so for 500MB, so naturally I said no thanks.
But today I went into a store and they said that I _could_ now get the £32 one (but would have to ring up) and the website (upgrade-to-ee, can't post links) under point 4 now says that I can upgrade to _any_ EE plan (providing it costs more p/m).
Before I have another fruitless half hour of wrangling - has anyone managed to achieve this or had any other experiences?
Cheers!
