I wouldn't have applied as soon as I saw the request for a cover letter or application form.
I only apply for jobs that are CV only.
I have never read a covering letter from any candidate, it tells me nothing of real value.0 -

Another issue would also be to consider how it looks when your CV is printed. I have had a few recently that must have been submitted electronically, but when printed out, it was just one large paragraph with few spaces and very difficult to read.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0

Agree. I dont see the point in a covering letter either.
Also, Ive applied for jobs in exactly the way they've been advertised, been shortlisted, interviewed and then ignored, even when I followed things up, just to ask for the decision in writing. It's very much a two way thing.0 -
What is the covering letter meant to tell you that the cv doesn't? All sound very picky to me.0

Some HR recruitment processes seemed to be purely designed to keep HR in a job especially in those sectors where "Fairness reigns"
Other than some contrived twaddle, what do people like the OP glean from a covering letter?0 -
Tells you why you are applying, why you want to work for the company etc.specialboy wrote: »What is the covering letter meant to tell you that the cv doesn't? I do hope that you have acknowledged receipt of those with the covering letter... my pet hate from employers is going through the time of tailoring my CV to the job description, adding a covering letter then hearing nothing back from them unless I phone up. Oh, to which the standard reply these days seems to be 'sorry, we don't acknowledge receipt of CVs/applications and I can't tell you if we received it'. Not having a go at you Tabatha, but it does work both ways round, you might find that those 28 people are sick and tired of sending off CVs and letters and never hearing anything back, even when they call to find out what is happening.
I agree it must be really disheartening applying to jobs and not getting a reply.
I always try to respond to everyone who applies but it pretty much a standard "thanks but no thanks" generic email I send.
Ive had a few "f*** you, wouldnt want to work for you anyway" responses back. I always keep a note of those incase they ever apply again !0 -

It tells me why I should consider you over the few hundred other people who apply for one job.0 -
