O2 Default - length of time to resolve

Hi,
I recently had a default removed that O2 put against my credit report which was an error on their part.
Basically I brought a phone contract through phones4U back in June 2010 on an 18 month contract (with O2) because I received a better tariff and a free notebook.
In June 2011, I spoke to an advisor and explained I wished to move onto a new phone and to cancel the contract - the advisor explained that it was less expensive to carry on with my contract that finished in Dec'11, lower the tariff to the minimum and cancel it by letter, but take out a new contract. I then did what they said, decreased the tariff, sent a letter of cancellation and stopped the direct debit (a month late in Jan'12).
In Sept'12 I had a baliff letter and phone calls saying I owed £77. I tracked it back to this phone account and paid it straight away. I then called O2 and tried to find out more about the debt and they said it was a closing balance that I owed (for a phone I wasn't using for 6 months?). I already had paid the money so though it was the end of it.
Oct/Nov'12 I applied for a mortgage with my wife to be told then find out that my credit report had a nasty mark against it. With O2 suggesting that I had cancelled the direct debit and stopped paying the remaining 6 months (which would bring the contract to 24 months).
I have been disputing this with O2 all this time with them saying it was a 24 month contract but they refused to remove the default even though they had no evidence.
I have only just had this removed after the ombudsman ruled in my favour due to the amount of evidence I provided and O2 couldn't provide any. It appears to have been a communication problem between O2 and Phones4U.
I have also had an upgrade on a lease car refused and for the last 18 months have not been able to apply for anything on credit since.
Now that I have had the ruling from the Ombudsman (basically had the default removed, given back the £77 and a letter of apology) is there any way I can now legally shaft O2 for the last 18 months of credit hell they have put me through?
Thanks:rotfl:

Doubtful. What has it prevented you doing?
But taking legal advice on a forum is a recipe for disaster.0 -

Stopped us from purchasing a house for 18 months (we now have two children in a small 2 bed house) and stopped us upgrading our small car for a family car (again a nightmare with 2 children)
Generally put our our life on hold for 18 months while this has been resolved - I just feel I would have been better off now if I would have had a clean credit file for the last 18 months.
