loads of ideas on pinterest http://www.pinterest.com/tahna22/potato-flakes/

I've made a choccy/mash cake before from as asda recipe but think I threw the recipe away after a sort out because I looked for it a couple of years ago when the same question cropped up but I couldn't find it.

But there are choc recipes on link above - will investigate myself.

I often use instant mash flakes mixed in with ordinary mashed potatoes when making fish/cottage/shepherds pie - I think it helps to keep the mash firmer on top of the pie, especially if the pie bit is very 'wet'.

You can also use it in pastry. Boil 300g potatoes then mash with 2 tbsp milk, 55g butter & seasoning (you can add an egg yolk if you want), leave to cool & then mix with 115g pl flour. leave to chill in fridge before using.

    Great for steakpies!

Just found a leek & potato tart recipe whick looks lovely - uses another method for making. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/potato_tart_with_mustard_36933

    Fantastic - thank you!

Interested in the choc recipes - will have to look into that!

Good idea re pie toppings, i guess you could use half and half to ration the 'real' potatoes but still keep the taste/texture.

+1 for thickening soups and stews. You can also use it to thicken gravy.

Forget the snob factor. Its great stuff!
