try getting the pipping bag out and make swirles of potato like on top of a cupcake the bake in the oven.

They are lovely I made them often. Gives it a crunchy outside and fluffy inside.
  • Add egg and flour. Gnocci.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I am now fully motivated to try something. and if it fails well at least i have tried and not just thrown it away because i didnt think i would use it!

First stop i think would be fish cakes and the swirly potatoes!
Might avoid papering the walls with it though :-P

Use it to make fishcakes? Or hashcakes.

Add it to HM soups instead of putting in a potato and blitzing it?

When camping I use it to thicken cuppa soups and in cornbeef hash

Hash cakes?! .... of the Amsterdam variety? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Add tinned tuna or salmon to make fishcakes - I must be an odd one as I love packet mash with loads of butter and grated cheese - real comfort food in a flash!

I love instant mash too! Perfect snack smothered with butter/cheese, browned under the grill and with lots of freshly ground black pepper! Can't beat it!!!

Hands up here too, haven't had it for years but used to be a staple when I was at uni and burning the midnight oil writing essays at the 11th hour.

Mustard cheesy mash balls - Was a recipe suggested to me by a friend who passed away last year (I've not had it since actually...) Anyway...

Smash made up, add a tablespoon of mustard (or to your taste), add some cheese spread/grated cheese/whatever needs using up, make the smash to quite a firm consistency, so it has just soaked up the flakes and then roll into balls, bake in the oven until crispy. Surprisingly nice actually :) I can't stand the stuff on its own but I had some in from when I had a jaw operation.

Great to sprinkle into the Slow Cooker when a casserole hasn't thickened up properly.

My eldest son keeps a pack of the cheapie stuff (SmartPrice) in the cupboard specially for that reason.
