  • Can't say I achieved a huge amount today. Slept badly (again) and had one of those sick headaches all day, which I treated with copious amounts of drugs. :p

Anyway, I did a bit of shopping, spent a little bit more than I should have but nothing to worry about.

I also whiled away a pleasant evening planning my veggie planting and seed sowing for this year. I have four small raised beds in the garden and have decided that this year I'm going to try something called 'square foot gardening' which should help ensure a bumper harvest. VERY excited about it.

I've also seen something called a bottle garden, which I am also going to try as I have the perfect spot for one.

    Today's summary:

    The good:
    • Got a free Sunday Times and a free pot of tea in Waitrose
    • Planned all my veggie growing for this year
    • Yesterday's free cabbage was delicious shredded and fried in butter with some pancetta
    • Daughter paid me back for some of her hobby-stuff from The Range
    • Made a small extra payment to my credit card
    • A weekend away I thought I'd have to go on is now not happening, saving me a considerable sum of money in March
    • Checked my account balances and all is well
    • Put over 2 quid into my SPC pot
    • Have spotted an excellent deal for some potting compost, will have to go back and get some (didn't have the car with me today)
    The bad:
    • Spent too much when out and about including a totally unnecessary Bakewell tart to go with my pot of tea in Waitrose :o:D
    • NO ebaying done of any description, not even got stuff together yet (hangs head in shame)
    • Very little housework done (I am a slattern)
Now, off to bed and to read a bit more of Les Miserables which I am currently reading on my Kindle. There is so much more to the story than you get with the film, but my God it's boring in parts as well. I'm afraid I have been pressing the 'next page' button rather too readily when Victor Hugo goes off on one. In particular, I read almost none of his ramblings about the Battle of Waterloo. If there is one thing sure to send me to sleep, it is any kind of military discussion. :rotfl:

Night night to anyone kind enough to read my own humble ramblings. :)

  • Well, I really struggled to get myself out of bed this morning - was it just exhaustion or was it the double-dose of anti-histamine I took going to bed? We shall never know. :p

Anyway, worked from home today, got a tricky task done so I'm pleased with that. Not sure I made much headway otherwise but here's today's report:

    The good: :A
    • Checked account balances and all is well
    • Paid the bill for emptying the septic tank (I know, the glamour!)
    • Did a TT to credit card - have just discovered the term TT (Tilly Tidy) and I love it. :D
    • Cooked tea from stuff in the freezer/fridge/cupboards (chicken curry with rice and naan bread, since you ask)
    • Contact lenses order cost slightly less than last time and also earned some cashback with Quidco on the order
    The bad: :naughty:
    • BT bill is higher than normal this month due to too many calls to Ireland that failed to use the el-cheapo access number
    • Ate some cake which is becoming a habit - MUST get back to my usual low-carb ways :o
    • No attempt at ebaying
    • Have realised that my detailed planting plans from yesterday won't quite work because one raised bed will have garlic in until mid-July. Methinks I need another raised bed to sort things out.
So some things I really must sort out:
    1. Do some ebaying!!!!
    2. Stop eating cr*p
    3. Go for a nice walk, need some fresh air and exercise
    4. Do that freelance work that is waiting to be done
    5. Bill for the little bit of freelance work done last month
    6. Do some more work on my own website
As well as the trillion other things that need to be done of course. :rotfl:

You have achieved some good things today though. Sometimes we just need to focus on the positives. :D

  • Don't seem to have achieved an awful lot today other than cooking stuff. I made tea, then made pancakes, then made my breakfast and lunch for tomorrow. Did a lot of clearing up, put out the recycling, put on some washing and hey presto, it's nearly eleven o'clock.

So I'm off to bed. Not much to report today:

    The good:
    • Brought HM breakfast and lunch into work
    • Free parking spot
    • Unexpected Quidco cashback tracked from an in-store purchase
    • Got some great packs of veggie seeds from Lidl for a quid
    The bad:
    • The usual - did nothing constructive towards earning any extra money. :o
    • Spent 2 quid on Euromillions syndicate at work - let's face it we're not going to win but one always has hope.
  • Well, I've just been reading DDFW's diary and it's made me even more determined to get decluttering. I would love to have everything decluttered and tidied up. The worst areas at the moment are:
    • The garden shed and the 'summer house' (glorified shed really :D)
    • The garage (clutter of nightmarish proportions:eek:)
    • The dining-room/office
    • The attic (which I think some mice are using as a hotel at the moment )
I will sort out the main garden shed first as that needs to be operational for the busy spring-time gardening effort. Then the garage, so I can access all the paint - the garden fences need painting and so does the shed and the summer house.

So top jobs for the weekend are (in this order):
    • Sow first set of seeds (indoors in propagators)
    • Tidy up garden shed
    • Paint the summer house and trellis
    • Paint the fence at the side of the house
If I get all that done I'll be very happy. I have Monday off so it's do-able.

Was chatting to a very nice man this evening who is a builder/gardener and he is going to sell me some gravel he's got lying about his yard - I need to gravel over the paths between my raised beds as they are all weedy and horrible. I will also be able to pick his brains about the best way to go about it as well. :T

I have a vision in my head about what the garden is going to look like when I've done all the main jobs and it's going to be lovely. I can almost taste the peas and the tomatoes and the runner beans too. :)

    So today's summary:

    The good:
    • Brought home-made breakfast and lunch into work
    • Free parking
    • Got given a lovely rose tree from my colleagues at work
    • Sourced some gravel for my garden
    • TT to credit card
    The bad:
    • Had to pay a £20 membership fee for a club I belong to (but I used cash from my month's spending money)
    • Was out all evening so won't berate myself for not doing any money-raising activities. Cost me nowt as well and I got some free cheese and wine. :)

Sounds like you're going to be busy!

I have had THE most productive day, got loads done and I'm really pleased with myself. Though every muscle in my body is aching right now. :D

It has been a beautiful sunny day, very Spring-like, almost Summer-like. I usually resist the urge at this time of year to strip down to just t-shirt and jeans but today it had to be done, I was roasting!

Today I cleared out the whole shed, threw out some junk, hoovered the shed (with an old hoover I got off Freecycle) and washed down the walls. I sorted out all the stuff that was in there and put it all back in an orderly manner. It now looks great and ready for the spring and summer season. It also looks almost empty and I can get in and out without breaking my neck. :T

I cruelly destroyed a number of eco-systems in there but it had to be done. :D Anyway, I am planning to build a bug hotel soon and that will make up for it.

I also cleared out the greenhouse - emptied it completely. Then I washed it down inside and out - it's amazing how much algae grows on the side by the fence. It is my least favourite job of the year because it's so messy and I end up with water in the eyes from spraying the roof on the inside, and lots of water dripping down my arms. But it is now sparkling clean and ready for all those lovely trays of seeds it's going to be welcoming soon. :)

I also washed all the seed trays and propagators. So I'm all set to sow my first batch of seeds tomorrow.

Those jobs took a lot longer than I thought they would but it's such a good feeling to get them done.

Tomorrow is looking very good again weather-wise. I plan to do lots of heavy-duty washing (like the covers on the sofas etc.) that will line-dry in no time. And I will sow my seeds and get started on painting the summer house. As well as cooking a delicious shepherd's pie for dinner.

What's everyone else been up to - has the weather been good where you are?
