I would say if your only talking a small amount of money you might as well being as returns elswhere are so small.I've ha £12 worth for over 40 yrs.Have won £25 quid once.
I've "won" more than that, in interest, by keeping the money in my 5% interest current account.
I don't know about Premium Bonds anymore - when I had them, I had several thousand in there and won a £50 (now I believe £25:() every other month. In total, it was admittedly probably less than if I'd had the money in an ISA (those were the days, back when ISA rates were more decent) - but the being sent more Premium Bonds when I'd won, it was more fun and the psychological benefit from that can't be measured! It was worth it, just for the every-other-month 'pick me up', which I wouldn't have got from looking at a bank statement!
This was when I had more money than I have now. When I took them out and the Bonds were to a few hundred pounds, I won virtually nothing at all. That said, I still have money now but maybe I've become even more savvy in recent years and it's now in three separate bank accounts being moved every month to get the bonuses on all of them, probably amounts to more than I had in bonds!:D0 -
