edreams - STAY AWAY

Should have read the reviews first obviously, but unfortunately booked tickets with them and looks like they misled me, so here's a word of warning what happened to me:

On their website you key in your flight details, and there is an option for "bag". Needed 1 return ticket with 1 bag, so chose 1 bag in the dropdown.

The fare got recalculated and went up by £11.

Happy with the details I proceeded to purchase.

edreams booked two separate flights - outbound with a low cost carrier, return with British Airways.

Confirmations arrived - low cost carrier confirmation had correct baggage allowance listed separately as paid for.

BA e-ticket arrived - no mention of baggage allowance.

Checked the BA website for my booking, and checkmytrip and guess what - I was sold a hand-luggage-only fare!

I've just gone through the edreams website again, and nowhere during the booking process are you being informed that the BA fare is hand-luggage only when you combine with a BA flight with another airline.

However, when you attempt to book a one-way flight with BA only, the website tells you (where you have to enter passenger details) that you are buying a hand-luggage only fare and you should phone a 0871 number to book luggage.

The email confirmation I have from edreams clearly states "1 bag", yet they have failed to issue a ticket with a baggage allowance - does this mean they are in breach of contract?

If I could find a UK address I wouldn't mind sending them a strongly worded letter by recorded delivery but I could only find an address in Spain ... highly dodgy - stay away!

If anyone knows a UK address where letters can be served please let me know ...

I'm also thinking of telling BA of my "experience", I'm not sure they will appreciate of customers being misled.

E Dreams is based in Barcelona and I can assure you BA are fully aware of their trading practices which is why they will not do business directly with them at all. They are either booking as though you were booking direct on the BA website, so hiding their existence completely, or they are buying the seats through another agent, and presumably adding a fee as well. Take this as a 'lesson learned' and contact BA to add a bag to your fare.
  • Interesting, didn't realise that this is how they operate. Will contact BA and pay the £20 for a bag, not the end of the world.

However - I do wonder whether I stand a chance of successfully issuing a chargeback via Visa for the edreams service fee that was taken separately from my account (obviously only after I've flown!).

I would think the contract I have with them is delivering tickets for 2 flights with 1 bag (as confirmed in their own email), they delivered 1 flight with 1 bag and 1 flight with 0 bags, so could this be seen as not delivering the agreed services?

This seems to be a problem when buying BA flights through an agent...

A few months ago I needed a BA flight, and the fare offered by an agent (Budget Air) was much lower than that offered by BA directly. Budget Air was very vague about checked luggage, so it was only when I looked at my booking on the BA site that I was sure that I had bought a hand-luggage only fare. At the time of booking I looked long and hard for a way to add a checked bag to my booking, but this was not offered at any point. So I travelled with hand luggage only, and missed out on buying souvenirs.

Edreams certainly are a rip-off - wish I'd googled them before buying, but being on Skyscanner alongside expedia, opodo etc I thought they were kosher.

I bought 4 return flights to Malaga, 3 with luggage both ways, and the price kept going up the further along the booking process I went. £632.28 for flights and baggage became £701.70 with Edreams fees. On the next screen this mysteriously increased to £732.85, with higher amounts listed for the flights, and one bumped up by £26 from "child" price to standard.

So the total price increased by £100 - approx 17%!

To add insult to injury Edreams had quoted prices in Sterling for the flights, but the airline wanted paying in Euros, so Smile Bank added another £25 with a Euro conversion at poor rates and a 2.5% currency charge.

Lesson learned the hard way there - AVOID EDREAMS AT ALL COSTS!!

Opodo and eDreams are owned by the same company and are equally bad.

Hi just wondering if you were able to issue a chargeback to Edreams. I have just been ripped of £100 for a flight they cancelled, after i had paid for it. They say it was refunded to my account 2 weeks ago, but it hasn't. Not sure if chargebacks apply if outside UK. Thanks
