ok mate whatever, plenty of abuse and not much analysis, care to disprove my assertion?
With over 1 million vehicles for sale in the uk at any time, even ten percent of ex fleet motors being clocked equals loads. No - one really knows the true figure.

I had an incorrect mileage entered in an MOT last year. A digit was missed off the end so basically taking 100k off.
When selling to WeBuyAnyCar it showed up as having mileage issue.
After some phoning spoke to Vosa in Enfield/Edmonton office.
Photocopied the service book and had a letter signed by MOT tester saying that it was a simple mistake.
It was sorted out by them in a couple of days.
And the marker was clear when WBAC repeated the HPi.
You can have the issue sorted out by the MOT station if you spot it.
But though i would post up thatall is not lost if you only spot it later.0 -
Going back to the original poster's problem, the fact is that he was fundamentally misled on the car and although it took a year to find out the problem, he still has the legal right to have this compensated for. It's no good the dealer shrugging their shoulders and saying not our problem.
Having used it for a year you cannot reasonably return it, but you should be compensated for the difference in the value of the car you bought and the car as it was described. That should be fairly easy to arrive at as a value, a Parker's Guide for that time (or even a year on) will give you a guide to the value of the extra mileage adjustment.
I would go back to them and tell them that you have been misled when you bought the car, and especially as they were apparently responsible for the servicing they should have been aware that the mileage wasn't genuine.
There is also something odd as when you do an MOT you normally get a paper printout that shows the previous MOT mileages - so did the dealer not give you that paper? If not, why not? I would have thought that they would normally give you it to prove that the MOT had been done and that there were no advisories.
To be honest, it does sound like you have been conned. A bit late to prove anything, but if you don't get anywhere, go to the Citizens Advice Bureau (you can do this by email if you want) and they should help you take the right steps, including small claims court if necessary.0 -

That "printout" _is_ the MOT certificate - but it's only included the previous four/five mileages for the last couple of years.0 -

However, the last couple of years is what counts in this case! There is something odd, and if they didn't give him the MOT certificate then it makes it extremely fishy.0 -
If you can get someone with the real VAGCOM software, it will show total mileage, hours run, total fuel used, and any mileage correction entries with old mileage and new mileage plus date of that entry/ correction.Be happy...;)0

That sounds a lot like my Lupo to be honest, although the Lupo was easy to get round, modern VW's are not.
All modern cars can be clocked.
Stuff from say four or five years ago is pretty easy.
But you can also clock vehicles as recent and expensive as the current XJ but it will cost more.
OP needs to find out what has gone on and i would go back to Arnold Clark to sort this out.
It could be an ex motability car.
They tend to be lowish miles even with diesel.
If there was a different owner between Jan 2012 and Feb 2013 prior to the purchase by OP perhaps they could be contacted.
If one owner had it previously they may just have been a very low mileage driver, perhaps retired.0 -
damn, big price difference between a 20K car and 60K car. \Hope you haven't been ripped off and it's a genuine mistake by the MOT0
