Sky Broadband - Advice on what to do next?

Hi MSE members.
I made a thread just over 2 weeks ago expressing my concerns over having only 5mpbs Download Speed and around 1 Upload speed.
After help from others and still no luck i contacted Sky and did a walk through talk through diagnosis over the phone.
I currently have my router (no phone connected) direct into a small extension lead that connects to the main socket on the wall. When taking the 2 screws from this socket there are many small wires visible so i believe this is my master socket.
Sky have run tests with different micro filters installed and even excluding the extension cable and it still shows the same speed on their end. Now the problem is…. They have offered to send out an engineer to look at this but said if there is any fault of my own it could cost up to £99 dependant on what the problem is. The adviser said he was almost certain i would not get a charge as everything we did over the phone indicated if it possibly a fault the engineer needed to fix.
Moneys tight, £99 is alot of money to put on risk. What do i do?
When Sky originally installed my internet there was no need to enter my property they activated outside, maybe i needed them to come inside?
Advice is great fully appreciated and i will read your replies thoroughly.
Thank you

Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.

Had to do my own digging seeming you started a new thread for some reason... Having read your previous thread here (reference for others posting) have you tried what penrhyn suggested?
He suggested following this guide Kitz's guide to remove the ring wire from the master BT socket. This can significantly improve your sync speed.
Do you notice any interference, crackling/distortion, etc on your phone line during calls? If so this will help you raise a genuine fault with your ISP / Openreach to get an engineer out being confident you will not be charged.
If you are confident removing the BT socket faceplate, you may also wish to purchase a BT VDSL MK2 faceplate and fitting one. It added 1.5Mb to the sync rate of my line when on ADSL, helped stabilise it and eliminated some interference I was getting.0 -
Your router stats were:-
Connection Speed 6141 kbps 617 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 dB 43.7 dB
Noise Margin 6.3 dB 6.6 dB
What are they when you plug into the test socket? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Similar to mine, I came to the conclusion that unless I switched my telephone line over to Sky I would remain on ADSL max (max speed 8 kbps presumably scaled down from that depending how far you are from the exchange). Did you move your telephone line over to Sky?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
If that was the case the OP's noise margin would be considerably more than the 6db or so that it is.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

There are many of us who didn't take Sky Talk who are getting ADSL2+ with speeds greater than 8Mbs and using the O2 router. No, you do NOT need their phone service.0
