Recommendations for a basic mobile phone
Hi all,
I'm looking for a mobile phone that only allows you to make/receive calls and send/receive text messages. It must NOT have a web browser, or if it does, one that will not work with modern websites. No other functions are really required other than making and receiving calls and sending and receiving text messages.
Please can you offer recommendations? I've looked at the Nokia range and the 105 looks to have too small a screen whereas the 206 looks better and while it has a browser it seems this cannot cope with recent websites. However, I'm not sure if there are other options that may be better.
Also, I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and will want to use the SIM card in my new phone - is it possible to use this SIM in a basic phone?

So the Nokia 206 isn't any good? Your post is confusing. I have the Samsung 1080i as a spare phone. Absolutely bullet proof and brilliant battery life. Screen is pretty small though.0

The Nokia 206 looks ok, but I want to see what else is around, especially as I may not be able to use my current SIM in it.0 -

Can I just also please check what size sim card the Samsung 1080i takes (it says mini in the specs I have seen, which may mean my 'standard' sim will not fit) and also whether you've used a smartphone sim in it and it worked ok?0 -
Mini sims have been standard for a long time now. The newer ones are micro and nano but adapters are available. I don't know what a smartphone sim is but I've used it on most networks except 3. Its a 2g only phone.0

There are standard sims, micro sims, and nano sims and the term mini sim means standard sim nowadays. The only other one is the original full size sim which is as big as a credit card.
So your standard(mini) sim will work in almost all cheap phones.0 -
A friend has just got a Nokia 105 and it's excellent if you just want to text and make calls. It's another world having a phone that only needs charging every 7-10 days.0

It does seem pretty good for next to no cost; problem is that the screen seems too small. I'm going to check it out in person though.0
