Over this last couple of weeks, after hovering to scoop up the left over bread, and halfprice meat, I've been dissapointed.
Today I caught the human operative scooping ALL the bread off the shelves into pink "unfit for human consumption" bags. I asked him what it had done wrong, and the reply was .... "today is sell by date". I said loads of people would buy it for 5p! Sorry, we do the same with all the meat. No wonder there's no bargains!!!

You may not like it but they are able to do what they want with the food.0 -
Just be thankful you don't buy from the reduced items section in my Tesco's, unless you want a dose of food poisoning.
I bought 4 poussin (small, individual portion chickens) from the chiller cabinets. Back home within 20 minutes and 2 in the fridge and 2 in the freezer. 24 hours later godson says he is coming - so get 1 out of the freezer to defrost. Pierce first pack to cook - evil stench. Pierce second - repeat evil stench. Pierce 3rd pack (previously frozen) - decide not to bother fully opening as from same batch. Hop in car and take back to Tescos. Profuse apologies and a refund. Happy! Go to Tescos the next day - cruise part 'reduced' section of chiller - and see the poussin I had brought back the day before, back on the shelf and for sale! I could see the gash where I had pierced the film with my knife. I had returned it as unfit to eat and I had frozen it previously. And Tescos were selling it!
Have not bought meat from them since.
And I had previously avoided Tescos for 15 years because of the memories of countless 'rotten food' purchases I made from them (only supermarket within walking distance) whilst I was at Uni.0 -
The stuff in the pink bags goes to make animal feed. Better than landfill. Meat waste obviously doesn't though.
I'm sure people would buy it for 5p at 10pm..... But believe me it's not the economical thing to do0 -
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

I've been told by a member of staff that Tesco do this in branches for a while to deter those customers that only come in for discounted products.0

I expected this to be the case and it probably does make good business sense. When the recession hit my local Tesco's was a nightmare with people queuing up and barging past people and the Tesco shelf stacker to get the reduced items.
It had to stop some time because it was becoming ridiculous.0 -

Good. They can be a nasty group of creatures. Ive en-counted them a couple of times acting like vultures around the bargain bins. Pushing, shoving, taking things out of other peoples trolleys.0 -
The yellow sticker brigade are a nightmare. I saw an assistant trying to put reduced items on the shelves, two old bats shopping together weren't even letting the items get to the shelves after having the reduced sticker added, all the items were snatched and went straight into their baskets. Sod everyone else who wanted to get a look in at the bargains.0

What I don't get is if they are so desperate for a bargain, then why are they shopping in Tesco's. More often or not Aldi/Lidl fresh items are cheaper in date than the Tesco out of date reduce crap anyway.0

Ha! This was in Sainsbury's of all places.
I went and did a weekly shop in Aldi at the weekend. I will never set foot in an Aldi again *shudder*0
