Yeah - I'd have spun 90 degrees too.
Nobody takes off the blanking plug - just remove the whole trap and you won't spill a drop

bath are normally fitted to the bath panel height, nothing to do with head heightMany baths have too little head room to fit a standard bath waste , hence the shallow traps,. The hole beneath the trap allows easier installation.
agree the not removing access plug was in response to force ten's postremove the
trap and forget inspection plug. If you had a blockage , I would always remove trap for a through clean

If I am lying on the floor , legs impeded by the basin piller, and have to slide out without the use of my arms ( holding with two hands , to keep it level)........ always manage to spill something0 -
just an update on this...........
got a tiler in to do the walls and then went to turn the service values on, oh dear. Facing the wall!!!
