Yes, the supermarkets do think we are daft! It must work for them though.0

Some people will buy it though!
I once worked in Marks and Sparks and we had a good offer on something where buying 3 was cheaper than buying two (a combo of an offer and an extra 20% off when you bought 3,6,9 etc)
I would always mention it when people bought two, and they'd look at me like I was a conwoman!
Did have quite a few sheepishly return with a third bottle to refund/rebuy though.0 -
There a lot of folk who are either too lazy or incapable of doing the basic maths required to select the best deal so, yep, they do think we are daft on the whole."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Actually you've highlighted another annoyance for me - why doesn't the 4 pack say 4 x 400g to match the 2 pack?
So many products otherwise identical apart from quantity seem to be labelled to make comparisons difficult, especially when carting round the supermarket. Deliberate obfuscation or just incomptence? Maybe someone from a supermarket can comment.
Oh, and don't buy these - make your own. Then you can add your own additives.0 -

I don't work for a Supermarket but it's pretty obvious what probably happens. Supermarkets want to make money, they're hardly going to over staff an area if they don't have to. I imagine most people are up to their eyeballs in work as it will be staffed as thinly as possible. I'd put my money on it being an oversight simply because whoever has to do pricing/promotions has got so much work to do they didn't notice.0 -
My SIL was shopping for some Dentastix dog chews in Asda.
Large dog 270g £1.50, £5.50/Kg
Large dog 28 pk £7.08, 25.3p each
and Morrisons
Large dog 7 pk £1.78, 25.6p each
Large dog 4x270g [STRIKE]£7.15[/STRIKE] £6.00 (no weight/ unit comparator)
How are you supposed to compare those. At least Tesco and Sainsbury get it right
Tesco
Large dog 7 sticks / 270g £1.59, £5.89/Kg
Large dog 28 pack / 1080g £6.29, £5.83/Kg
Sainsburys
Large dog x7 £1.59, £5.89/Kg
Large dog x28 £6.75, £6.25/Kg0 -
I dont think the supermarkets think we are daft, even if they do we should be savvy enough to spot it. In the first example re the jacket potatoes, yes its cheaper to get the box 4 and I bet the next offer will be the box 4 and as with other offers Ive seen its not always cheaper to get whats on offer. There are most likely some people who would buy the 2 boxes of 2 jackets for whatever reason.0

Trust supermarkets as far as you could comfortably spit their head offices.
I always check everything before I buy. Unfortunately, I have the financial incentive but fortunately I have the time to do so.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Supermarkets know people are daft. How else would they get people to buy boxes of jacket potatoes ?
£2.50 for 4 spuds ?? You have to be crackers beyond belief to buy those !0 -

I gave up being surprised at what they will try to sell when I saw the fresh mashed potato on sale. Funnily enough I rarely see it yellow stickered, either!
I am led to believe (from stuff I have seen posted on MSE in the past, mainly) that manufacturers run promotions where they will try to shift certain stock and the supermarkets get a better deal on it. Maybe the jacket spud thing is one of those promotions?
Having said that, while I do buy some prepared potato items I won't be buying frozen jacket spuds. I 'believe' the advantage is that they will cook quicker than from fresh, being part cooked, but I could be wrong on this.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
