Would he be amenable to Meals on Wheels? If so, that would kill two birds with one stone.

Our local meals at home service now delivers seven frozen ready meals once a week, to be microwaved when needed.

When my MIL was getting frail a near neighbour was popping in to see her. We formalised this and paid her to just look in two or three times a day with some visits being longer to help her with specific things. She was a single parent and it suited her as she could just pop round with youngest child in tow or go in later when older children looked after the little one for ten or fifteen minutes. We paid her about what we would have paid an agency which was more than she would have been paid, fair enough they need to cover costs but worked out better for us to do it this way as MIL liked and trusted her and always got her.

I have noticed a local hotel is doing a meal delivery service for the housebound, don't know how much it costs or if that is something that happens elsewhere but sounds like a good idea.

Do they? That is such a shame it was a valuable service for so many and a point of contact for them in a lonely day. I volunteered with them for a while.

Ours is outsourced but in addition to paying for the daily meal there are increments of care which you can pay for, up to a 20 mins stay when the meal is being delivered.

If your Dad gives his consent, contact you county council for their adult social care department for a chat and possible assessment of his current and possible future needs.

I think that's the best way forward.

If you are lucky, and have a good social services team, they can be invaluable in this type of situation.
