Yesterday, my employer gave me a month's notice that he is terminating my employment contract. Next week will be my last week with the other three weeks of the notice period being paid leave.
Although I am not overwhelmed with doom and gloom, I will be re-entering a competitive graduate job market.
If I am to go back onto the dole, I'd like to sort out my money situation by decreasing my monthly spend. For example, my iPhone4s contract with 3 is coming to the end of its 24-month period. That should go.
I am reluctant to quit the gym as if I am going to be time rich, going to the gym will stop unemployment depression.
I think that most of my rent will be covered by Housing Benefit. This leaves two credit cards as my biggest worry. One is a Halifax one with about £1500 on it @ 22% APR and an RBS one with about £2500 on it. The RBS one will be 0% until the end of April.
I am wondering if I could get another 0% transfer balance card while I am still officially employed to move the RBS card's balance to while clearing the balance in the Halifax one with my last paycheck. Does this sound a sensible strategy?

Four months later, at the same time of a Saturday morning, I am pleased to report that I started a new job last Monday.
It is a better job than the one I was made redundant from being in the Sunday Times Top 25 and The Times Top 100 for graduates. The gym membership can go because I have free membership with a hotel spa gym 300m from my office.
My job strategy was to play the numbers game. I will start a new thread about this in case I can be of help to other job seekers.0 -
