Power flush isn't a power flush

Got someone to come out and look at radiator not working to give a quote.

In working out what it was he fixed it. Jammed valve at that point hadn't quoted. Had also included in the job that I was interested in power flush

He hadn't given a price for fixing radiator when I asked for quote in power flush but he said 120. This seemed a great deal. And as he appeared to have not charged for radiator and had done it quickly and easily I trusted him.

He's just returned to do power flush but appears to be doing it without a machine. He's drained system, put cleaner in and says will return later to put inhibitor in.

Hate confrontation. I'm clearly not getting what I asked for but is it still a reasonable deal? Combo boiler and only 5 radiators.

I've texted him to say that it seems I'm not getting what I asked for and he's asked me to call him back. Bit of advice on prices as well as next steps/ rights would be much appreciated before I call him/ when he returns at 230 would be great.

Just putting a cleaner in the system, then draining it is no way near like a Powerflush. The sludge will stay in the system unless he removes each radiator off the wall and takes then outside and flushes them with a hose pipe. But still a amiture way of doing it.
Hes having you over. Just tell him so have checked on-line etc
Give him £30 for fixing the rad valve and get someone else to do it, dont pay him for the cleaner he used, as he is not doing what you asked for.

Depends on the area you live, you should be paying between £250- £400 for a professional Powerflush, plus another £125 to fit a magnaclean.
He should use x800 and machine combined with a rad hammer tool
  • Thank you so much . Will call him now.
  • He has quoted you £120 & that's exactly the value of work you are getting, a powerflush is likely to cost you a min of £300
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Did you see the chemical he put in?? did it have a RED cap?
  • I think it was just a cleaner. It did say it could be used with power flush though

Exactly if it was a powerflush chemical, it should be used with a machine.

Water samples should be taken before the flush and after with a TDS meter, turbotube.
Merely draining the system and refilling will not dislodge any sludge are debris in the system
  • Closer. It's near northwich.

So it's all turned out well, didn't need to worry about conflict he's obviously not money orientated. Without me having to say too much he only asked for £20 for the stuck valve.

He said he hadn't explained it wasn't going to be a power flush but could do one and apologised. He'd told me the value of a power flush. But I told him I hadn't questioned his price because I'd seen a local groupon offer the week before offering it for £99. He acknowledged this and offered to do a proper power flush at only £100 when I want. Result!!!

Bless him he knocked a jar over and broke it on his way out.... He then said no charge at all. Jar was only a fiver at most I said not to worry and we'd sort out later.
  • Am I being naive still do you think?

Just wanted to say really appreciate you taking the time with your advice

Just in the nick of time too, knight in shiny white plumbing can perhaps?!

    Have a great weekend
