personally i would get it checked so then you know for sure it is not going to come back due to a mistake. £7.50 for peace of mind for you holiday is small price to pay.

i made 3 mistakes on mine that i was sure was correctly filled in. fortunatly the post office picked them up and i had my new passport a week later.

The £7.50 check still gives no guarantee that the form is filled in correctly. Post Office employees are as human as I am. The only advantage is that they see more passport forms than the average human so theoretically should pick up on the mistakes.

Our last passport form was filled in correctly and STILL the EO at the Identity and Passport Service phoned us up and asked for us to send yet again our marriage certificate, despite the IPS having had numerous sightings of it already. She was a human too and also deals with dozens of applications a day but for us, a correctly filled in form was still not enough. Even still, we got the passport back in around a week!

I used check and send at my post office and got my passport in five days. I would highly recommend this service.

    PS. To the OP,

Even if you are certain you have filled in the form correctly, please ,make CERTAIN that neither yourself or the countersignatory has gone over the lines in the signature boxes. Passport agency WILL decline to issue for this reason. I know 'cos I have fallen foul of this in the past.

Yes this is a big mistake, and the biggest reason for rejection of application forms must be for unacceptable photos eg. not looking straight ahead, sun glasses, full head veils, too big, part of head missing etc.

Passports are returned from the passport office by SECURE delivery. It's not a Royal Mail service so will not be affected by any official industrial action.

  • Well thanks everyone. I decided not to bother with the check and send. Well that was a big mistake. I am preety sure the form was correctly filled in. BUT I forgot to send the money. I rung the helpline and they have told me to ring back in 5 days when it should be in the system and I should be able to pay over the phone. Fingers crossed that I have not made any other boo boos now.
