Hi Everyone,
I currently use a Toshiba Portege which I work on every evening on my lap. It weighs 1020 grammes. It has been great but is now over 3 years old and sadly needs replacing.
The weight is critical for me, more than spec to be honest. It is used to run an accounts package, office, outlook and, as I'm female, for lots of shopping on johnlewis.com!
Any suggestions on what to get would be very welcome as I am struggling to find comparisons that show weight.
Thank you so much!

Three years old and it needs replacing? What have you done to it?0

It all depends on your budget really. Something with a magnesium case if likely to be lighter than cheaper models. The Dell XPS 13 is 1.3KG but priced like an Apple product.0

I use a Dell XPS-12 Ultrabook with the flip screen so it doubles as a laptop and a tablet. It weighs 1500gm and being a 12.5" screen it's nice and portable. For such a small machine, the keyboard is very nicely sized and easy to use. I guess the touch screen accounts for quite a big percentage of the weight, but I find it comfortable on my lap and no great burden to carry.... Thank you so much for the replies so far!
Firstly, budget is not a key issue, the current one was well over a thousand, so it will cost whatever it costs.
Should the current one last longer than 3 years? My husband keeps nagging me that it should be replaced.
It works fine, but is showing signs of wear. The part where you plug the power lead I the side is loose inside, the keyboard is visually worn and I confess, it was once dropped, so now he cd drive makes a loud noise for about 3 seconds when you switch it on.
The CD drive doesn't actually work, not that I find that a problem, as once when I was deleting things to make space on the hard drive, I accidentally deleted the cd software. That's a girl for you!
The hard drive is nearly full again, so may need anger of my deleting splurges!0 -
If you are a touch typist a netbook or really small pc will drive you nuts.
Some of us girls would know how to re-load it againDG

That's what I got my daughter last November when she needed a new laptop. Weight was also her prime requirement since she has to carry it around at university. There are lighter units around but this was a decent compromise between weight and screen size.

Don't understand how an extra 100grams is going to make shopping on johnlewis.com any more difficult.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -
Eleven Inch Macbook Air weighs 1.08kg. The faster versions of it with the i7 processor are very quick, the ordinary versions perfectly fine. Not cheap, however.0

Well for semi-pro/business use I'd argue you can't beat the Lenovo X series, at least for how much of a pleasure their keyboards are.
