Backing up has really no relevance to whether you replace or restore the original. It's a separate issue. You need a reliable back up in both cases.
And now, not 'when you get round to it'. By then it's invariably too late after the drive fails.
Prrofessional data retrieval is expensive and often impossible. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you again!
So, this is my plan, unless anyone tells me I have something wrong..
1. Load accts software onto another PC, so I can do a test restore from zen to check back up can be successfully retrieved.
2. Do a system image to the portable hard drive as a fall back option if all else fails.
3. Do a factory restore re the link given. (The iPad wouldn't open the link by the way, but will check on laptop later.)
4. Re load office, quick books, sage etc and restore files.
Have I missed anything here? I've never done this before but am really keen to learn!0 -
I am being nagged by my husband (I know that should be the other way round) to change it as he thinks it will one day stop working and thus cause us a huge amount of pain in getting something else up to speed and retrieving data etc. Like me, he has a very limited knowledge, however, his solution is always, buy a new one, whereas truthfully, I would be really pleased to keep it so the advice given is actually really positive!
Ignore your husband, especially if he has limited knowledge. My OH was the same, ditch the desktop and get a new one. Like you, money wasn't an issue, but I was persuade here to do a factory restore and with great help from Nifty Digits, I did and haven't looked back.0
