bank transfer charge back

Im hoping someone can help please.

I recently paid by bank transfer for some items that I thought was from a company. I even paid this to what I thought was a company hf reptiles account name. After more investigation I found it to be a person.

I have spoken to the banks fraud team who said because I authorized the transfer there is nothing they can do without police intervention instructing them to do so. So I went to the police station and because it was online fraudthere is nothing they can do so I have to put a form in with the auction fraud team which I did. I am not very hopeful they are going to do anything because when I submitted the form it said we cannot deal with every complaint.

I have being reading about chargeback and am unsure if it applies to bank transfers.
Hopefully someone may have other advise if charge back isn't a option.
Thanks

A bank transfer is almost like handing over cash and is normally irreversible. Having said that I have had one reversed but that was when I put in the wrong details and phoned them 10 seconds after making the mistake.

Unless you are 100% happy or are willing to take the risk a bank transfer is never a great idea.

Nope - no protection here. Chargeback applies to credit and debit cards, not bank transfer payments. Police can do some kind of trace on the account to get the recipients details.

You still have legal options open to you - if you can get full details of the recipient.

But often people in this sort of situation who don't know exactly who they are dealing with loose their money.
  • Hi thanks for the replies guessed it would be the case
  • Being a Sole Trader EG: Bert Smith trading as HFReptiles isn't necessarily a bad thing. What is the problem?
  • Under normal circumstances nothing but when bert is using a name to make out he is a buisness for the sole reason to take money it then becomes a problem.

Have you not received the goods?
  • No he never had any intention of sending them he as done it to another 3 people I know of.

I have 2 addresses for him if they are correct I am unsure to far to go and find out. I have his name even a picture of him. I have even spoken to him on the phone he just laughs and jokes about it.

I think you need to put a bit more pressure on the Police, what you need is a crime number.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring
  • Ive got a crime number from tthe action fraud team. I have even got the other 3 people to do the same who have crime numbers in the hope they will see multiple complaints and take action. I just don't think the amount is large enough for them to bother.

I believe I have found him on ebay also have contacted them but there complaint form is pretty basic so I doubt they will take action.

How much is it? Opening a small claim online is relatively inexpensive.
