After three months of supposedly going over my broadband limit of 10GB have taken the decision to leave and change to sky which worked out me saving around £20 with combined package of TV, phone and BB (and a lot more variety in terms of on demand).
BT claimed that I regularly use 20GB a month and suggested I upgrade!! Funny how this only became apparent when I came out of contract! Just like to mention that I was away for two weeks over christmas so not sure where I could have used around 20GB worth of data when it was hardly used and there is no one else in the house hold!
Phoned up a couple of times to discuss with customer services and have to say the first person I spoke to made my mind up with leaving BT. Absolutely disgusting tone of voice and completely condescending!
I checked my so called broadband meter online over a couple of days and apparently I used 1GB yesterday despite the fact I was only on my laptop for a couple of hours browsing (no streaming/downloading present).
Anyone else convinced that BT are using tactics to try and get customers to resign contracts by these fictional broadband usage!?? Anyone thinking of joining BT...beware if you are planning on signing up on the unlimited service and expect top rate customer service!

There is a whole thread about this. I too suddenly had my claimed usage doubled when out of contract and on holiday despite no changes to my usage pattern which had been consistent for 18 months. Talk to the forum rep who was very helpful to me. I got my excess charges removed and then upgraded to unlimited for £9 a month though I did have to request my MAC code. Yes, it's another 12 month contract which is annoying but life is too short.
ETA: I found the phone people pretty awful as well and wasted a lot of time on them but the online rep was great.0 -
Log into your HomeHub, password should be on the HomeHub.
Find the router statistics screen, which tells you how much has been uploaded and downloaded. There should be a time saying when the router started.
Obviously, switch off and start the router from scratch, and check how much you have used any time you want. Upload and download both count. If you have a trojan/virus that is using your computer to attack Barclays, there will be more Upload than normal.0
