Thank you, rds. Their Origins 1500 model looks like a candidate.

Pinkypants, I preferred Feather and Black's 1500 spring Beckett model to their 1200 spring Shelley Deluxe because it felt firmer. Both are rated 8/8 for tension, however.

I can't seem to find a Restus retailer in South Herts, is the Crystal sold in Next or JL under their own name?

Arrrr I see you have discovered the joys of firmness description. I've never understood how firmness ratings work, as we are all different shapes, sizes and weights, plus we all have a different perception of firmness too.

I doubt the Crystal would be just relabeled for Next and JL, those big boys don't want anyone else getting their hands on their product.

Give Restus/KozeeSleep (Same company) a call and ask them what retailers they have in the area.

Yes, spot on, there seems to be a lot of "smoke and mirrors" in the world of mattress retail, but some of it can be dealt with by the application of common sense.

There's a lot of straight talking on the Factory Beds Direct website, too.

Only 2 rows of hand side stitching compared to 4 with Restus.

It may have more wool/cotton mix, but that's about it.

As always it's very hard to compare products online, really need them side by side.

Pinkypants, the nearest Kozee Sleep retailer to me is out in Reading.

The most comfortable mattress I have tried so far is a Vi-Spring rated "firm" by the company itself. It's out of my price bracket.

How firm would you say the Crystal is for someone of 12 to 13 stone, six feet tall?

Is the Kozee Sleep Solitaire 4000 firmer?

Vi-Spring will feel nice, they are very top end and beautifully crafted products.

As for firmness again this is hard to describe with no physical demonstration on hand. Most beds will be described as firm or medium firm as these are very general terms and we've all been brought up (incorrectly) that a soft bed is bad for your back. Look on the internet and search for soft mattresses, you'l hardly find any.

Also how firm is firm to you, compare it it the floor? Would you describe the floor as being firm or extra firm? Hopefully it's clearer on how difficult it is to judge.

I'm 5ft6 and just 9 stone, it feels firm ish to me when on a sprung base so on a solid base it'll feel firm.

As for the Kozee Solitaire I've never tried it, but I'm guessing the extra layers of springs will act a shock absorber for the other springs, therefore making it feel slightly softer then the Crystal.

I can ring the rep tomorrow and find out his opinion on it.

Sorry for no definitive answer but it's not easy.

Spoke to rep this morning, he reckons that the Solitaire will be a bit firmer then the Crystal.

So bangs goes my theory then.

Yes, I understand, but that's why I mentioned the Vi-Spring. Vi-Spring's idea of firm = my idea of firm.

Thanks for asking the Restus rep about the Solitaire. I take it the extra 1000 springs will in theory provide better support?

That's the general rule more springs more support.

But it depends on how they are laid out in the mattress. 2000 springs on 1 layer is much better then 1000 on top of 1000 (double decker style). Most springs that can be put in 99% of 5ft mattress is 2000, any more then that then double decker system is used.

    3000, normally 1500 x 2.

    4000 normally 2000 x 2.

But could be a mixture of 3 or 4 layers of springs.
