Nissan Qashqi tailgate problem
There's a knocking noise coming from the back of the car. After much investigating we have narrowed it down to inside the panel of the tailgate door. No idea what is causing the knocking but we have provisionally booked it in for investigation. However Nissan have said that if it is not covered under the warranty they will charge £72 plus whatever it costs to fix. So, we are going to try to a) find out what it is and b) see if we can fix it ourselves. The first problem we need to overcome is how to remove the panel from the door hatch without damaging it. Then, providing we can fix the noise, how to get the panel back on. I've tried googling but can't seem to find this information. Any help out there?

No response so will try again. We managed to get the panel off, found nothing amiss inside it. However, we now think that it is the panel itself that is vibrating against the hatch door. It is really irritating to hear this knocking noise when driving. The car is less than 3 yrs old and this noise makes it sound like an old jalopy. Where is the best place to take it to? A mechanic or a body place? Or has anyone any suggestions for us to sort it ourselves.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

I'g be straight back down to the Nissan garage and tell them to sort it, if they are still difficult contact Nissan UK.
If it was me and I had to fix it I would drive around with someone in the back pulling/pushing slightly on the panel to isolate the problem then wedging it very slightly with something paper/cardboard/rubber washer etc.0 -
Did that yesterday Hintza. I was in the back and when I pushed my knees against the panel, the noise stopped. So OH is padding as much as he can today and see where that takes us. I agree about taking it back, but the showroom wants £70 just to diagnose it and say it's not likely to be covered by the guarantee. Might just take this further. this may sound daft but
what type of catch is on the hatchback door?
if it has the type that latches at the bottom of the door when it closes onto a round type catch like this

wrap a little bit of insulating tape / sellotape around the pin on the fixed latch on the boot floor not too much at first , if it doesn't cure it try a little more
as per here p.s. it's a common fault

it cured the problem on my dad's old fiat after it had been back to fiat 5 times0 -
This says everything you need to know about the garage, and by association the manufacturer.
A 5 minute diagnosis for a mechanic (if the dealership have one on site), yet before a technician has even got off his backside the £ signs roll in their eyes like a cartoon character.
I suspect you'll fix this yourselves easily enough, if twer me this bunch of crooks would not have to worry about me darkening their doorstep ever again, and i would be sending a letter to the dealer Principal outlining why they have lost a customer.0 -
Use a different Nissan Garage from now on.
And write a letter of complaint to Nissan UK Customer services.
This kind of stuff is covered under the warranty as far as i am concerned.
Dealers are only franchises. So some operate very differently to others.
I would personally look for a garage that only does Nissans.0 -
Thanks folks. We have booked it in for " a diagnostic examination by a technician". Their words. We will certainly take it further if we have any trouble.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

Rou47. We put some insulating tape around the loop that the tailgate catch attaches to, as suggested in the link you posted. And the knocking seems to have stopped, for now at least. We still intend taking it in though because surely this should be covered by the guarantee, and we shouldn't have to be putting tape on an expensive car like this.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

I had the same problem with my Qashqai, turned out to be the rear shockers, fixed under warranty, surprised that they are still having trouble with them, mine is a 58 plate fixed in 2009.0

sometimes the easy things cure a problem .
The dealer may need to adjust the catch
If you can print off these answers and show the dealer0
