Recommended maternity pillow for sleeping

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a maternity pillow for sleeping? (This is for my missus who is 18 weeks pregnant).

I've had a look on Amazon but quite a lot of the reviews for most of them say the pillows lose their shape after a few months.

Thanks

I have the dream genie, which I used from about 24 weeks until about 36. I could have used it before then, but I was umming and ahing about spending all that money, but it was worth every penny. I slept sooooo much better with it than before I had it, and it stopped my backache too. I've only stopped using it now as I found I got too big for it at 36 weeks.
I plan to use it as a feeding pillow now I'm almost at due date (6 days!) so its living in its new home on the nursing chair ready for baby!!!

  • Dream Genie is the one I used too. Pricey but you could re-sell on ebay or netmums (or get a secondhand one that way too).
  • Oh, and mine did me through 2 pregnancies, no loss of shape.

I'd also suggest a memory foam mattress topper for the later months as she won't be able to move as much in bed, may be lying more on one side and it can be painful.

    I bought this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-BOLSTER-MATERNITY-PREGNANCY-SUPPORT-PILLOW-ANTI-ALLERGENIC-SOFT-ALL-SIZES-/271405147257

Was amazing as can folded alsorts of ways, my daughter who I was pregnant with when buying this is now 4 and uses it in her bed to snuggle up to :-) didn't go out of shape at all and an absolute bargain. I'm 5'3 and bought the 5 ft one

    This one. https://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplay0_10751_-1_84322_10001

Not only the most comfy pillow for me, I used it as a feeding pillow and a baby nest once DD had arrived.

I didn't use anything until 36 weeks and then bought a Dream Genii. However I didn't like it that much as I found it restricted me and I'd wished I'd just bought a long tube like pillow that I could hug and put between my knees.

I bought a dream genii for £5 off a Facebook selling site but I haven't gotten on with it so I'm back to using a normal pillow which I put between my knees and under my bump.

I find that the bit on the dream genii that goes between your legs is too big but your knees can still touch so it doesn't help with pelvic pain or knees knocking together. And the bit to support the bump is too big. The only good bit is the back bit. And I'm hoping I can use it as a feeding pillow.

Id start with normal pillows you have before buying anything.
  • I'm the same, I just bought a couple of cheap pillows and place one under my bump and one between my knees. Works a treat and was a lot cheaper than the official maternity pillows.

I used a separate double duvet from my OH and just wodged bits of it under my bump or between my knees as required. I ran considerably hotter than my OH while pregnant too and this meant I could use a thinner duvet than him.

In fact it was so practical and comfortable that we still use separate duvets many years later. Saves a lot of fights about who has the most of the duvet anyway!

If you have some spare pillows it may be worth a try using all at once before buying a maternity one. I did not buy a special pillow but used a selection of normal ones, of varying tickness. A soft mattress/topper was also very helpful for sore hips.
