Hi guys, I've just been reading your posts I to have booked a wedding for the end of October at The Georgian House Hotel. I've paid the deposit and booked almost everything up!! I'm worrying what to do too. My worry is if everybody starts to look for other venues and they have a max exit of bookings that's going to definitely affect later bookings!! My worry is that if they loose bookings and can't guarantee the money to keep it going before the sale then the hotel will ultimately have to close. Also even if they get a buyer for the hotel there is nothing to say that they won't charge more for the venue as being a new contractor they can change the cost. So the really good deal may not be so good by October!! I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and look for another venue!! It's stressful enough without worrying about wether it will be open or closed over the next 8 months!! My sympathy goes out to all of us especially as on a budget it was a fantastic offer !!0

Hi I did speak to the administration, they sent an e-mail to say all will be going ahead as usual!! I just don't see how they can guarantee this. If there does become a short fall they will shut the hotel. All they are interested in is doing a job and that's clawing money back!! If they don't do you think they will worry about your big day!! I don't think they will, I feel sorry for the staff and if they had any sense they would be looking for other jobs!! I think that people getting married in the next few weeks might be ok but long term , I'm investing to much time, money and effort into this. And the last thing I would want to hear is that it's being shut 6 month down the line!! I'm already in contact with another venue a the administrators can not give an absolute guarantee and to be honest we would be fools to think they could or that individually they care about anyone's booking regardless of what it is. They just need to try and keep hold of the bookings they have got because let's be honest, if we were going there this week to book up a wedding they would have to say that they have gone into admin and I personally wouldn't book anywhere that told me that!! And sure a lot of people will think twice about booking no matter what it's for and regardless of what the staff say!! But please if you can come back with legal proof that our wedding will go ahead no matter what I would be more than happy to change my mind about changing venue!!0 -
It's a nightmare situation. We've just found our venue has gone bust today, 5 weeks until our wedding. The hotel is closed and all the staff sent home.
Luckily we've found another venue straight away.
I would say get looking for alternative venues, you don't need that stress hanging over you until the big day. At the end of the day it doesn't matter where you end up - the ones who love you will be there for you.0 -

We were booked in at Longhirst Hall, Northumberland. They closed their doors suddenly yesterday morning and sent all the staff home, nobody knew anything about it - we were booked in to see the wedding coordinator today, and they were still advertising their wedding fayre for Sunday! Lost £2500, but hoping we can reclaim most of it from the Credit Card company under section 75. Saving grace is that we were due to pay the final £2500 today...
We've now booked in at a local gastropub in their function room, which is actually a really nice room. We wont have the country hall scenery but we've got each other!
Still, it could be worse - there was a wedding booked in for today, so really feel sorry for them, and all the staff who are suddenly out of a job.0 -

I've spoken to them, all they could say was open as usual, business is running uninterrupted bla bla bla!! I did abit of research ( in law is a lawyer) adminstration which has gone through the courts can re apply back through the courts to have it revoked if they dnt believe it will meet the admin targets/requirements!! They stated in our email the administrators have stated they're "intentions" to honour all bookings!! That doesnt sound to me like its set it stone! For a company who are trying to convince us that our weddings are going ahead but they cant provide exact yes's or no's is dodgey to me!! Were looking for a new venue but do have a meeting with the georgian this sunday!!0 -

How did it go at the hotel, are you still looking to change. I'm going to cancel my wedding there today. So many people have said to change venue!! I'm not sure if we will get our money back but I'm going to give it a go. But I'm still changing for piece of mind!0 -

Hi penpipstop,
We didn't even bother going down to be honest! In the end we didnt think there was any point! We have booked an alternative venue in yateley (hotel and is fabulous, better than the georgian we think), so not too far and managed to pay the same price with even more guests in the evening!! We've pushed it back untill march next year considering the money we have lost and thought it would be nice for a spring wedding.. this new place is lovely, ive told them the whole situation and they are more than happy to bend over backwards for us! Have you managed to find a new venue? I will be cancelling the georgian tomorrow and we will definitely be writing to the administrators to get our money back!0 -
be very sure you are allowed to cancel without any further penalties. If they are still trading, then you are still subject to normal cancellation penalties.0
