How To Discourage Wildlife

I think you have all mis-understood me....I don't want to hurt anything...I just want to be able to enjoy my garden....which I can't...yes they are fun to watch....but not when you are being attacked by them and don't forget I am on crutches...not an easy feat to do when you are trying to stay up-right and leggit..margaretclare wrote: »I've just watched a half-hour programme on BBC1 in the 'Saving Planet Earth' series. This was all about the wildlife that lives in London - peregrine falcons, otters and....bats! A lady who has a bat box on the back wall of her house (like our sparrow-boxes) said you can have endless fun in the evenings watching them. This is just what the OP was complaining about 'bats not letting her enjoy her garden' yet this lady talked about the fun and enjoyment she got from watching them.

hedge hog's
frog's/toad's
bat's
wasp's
bee's
fly's
I don't think any of these creatures want to attack humans without good cause, their lives are too precious to them..................

The only creatures in your list capable of attacking a human and causing any damage are bees and wasps, and they only attack if provoked. Leave 'em alone and they'll leave you alone.hedge hog's

I didn't mean to anger anyone....and I would never harm another creature....the back garden will be made wheelchair friendly as I am in that most days now....but when I go to put the rubbish in the bin at night...I can't cos the bats get me...if I sit outside the back door then they get me...I just wondered what I could do that would discourage some of them from coming in the garden...as I don't want my dogs harming anything either...benson (one of my dogs) must have thought it was a football as the hedge hog had rolled into a ball...he did leave it alone once he was told to...but troy (my other dog) just picked one up and brought it into the house which isn't my cup of tea as being wildlife friendly...nor would I think that any of you would like one in your living room...but I'll leave you all with this little thought...I will most certainly be dead before the wildlife goes anywhere...so you can all sleep easy in your beds at night knowning that!!!.

So computerwoman you have lots of bites and scratches from the bats attacking you?
Nope I doubt it.
Bats are actually frightened off humans like most creatures. If they are flying towards you it's to tell you to go away for disturbing them.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Apparently sonic thingys (technical term, obviously lol) that are 'supposed' to discourage cats may work on bats. I think they look a little like the solar lights for the garden. They may be worth a try.
As for the rest I'm afraid I can't think of anything off the top of my head at the moment.
I do feel the need to add that I enjoy the wildlife in my garden (aside from the slugs, snails, and flies), but I appreciate that not everyone does. No-one gets the kind of replies I've been reading here if they ask how to get rid of slugs. You can't just subscribe to the buddhist 'all life is sacred' if you only count cute/fluffy/funny/non-crop-damaging wildlife and no-one gets slated for asking advise on how to get rid of slugs on their crops or flies in their house etc. I hope the OP finds a solution to her problems.
Edit to add; the above sounds like I want to nuke all wildlife! I don't and I don't think killing animals is an appropriate response to most problems (although sometimes it is necessary)."A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper
