How To Discourage Wildlife

Hi
how can I discourage wildlife coming into my garden.
hedge hog's
frog's/toad's
bat's
wasp's
bee's
fly's
they are all becoming a pain to live with.
the dog's think that the hedge hog's are football's and try to pick them up
one succeeded tonight and brought it in and put it on the living room rug.
the other dog took one into his bed and it was running around the kitchen and out the door like it was on speed.
was sat playing with next door's kitten then frightened the poor little thing like mad cos I screamed cos a huge frog/toad jumped underneath me.
it !!!!!! me up like hell!!!!
then we have bat's!!!!!

yes well we would wouldn't we
whitby the home of dracula and goth centre.

can't go out on a night as they are there getting you
freaky little fcuker's.
help me
what can I do to discourage them
I don't put food out
but I don't want to harm them

we also have dragonfly's but they are not a problem.

If you get rid of the hedgehogs, frogs, toads and wasps your garden will be over run with aphids and slugs. Without the bees your plants won't be pollinated. But if you really want rid of them, then like any animal, remove their food source and they will leave. As southernscouser says, just pave over the whole lot and I doubt you'll have any problems with wildlife.

However, it is absolutely illegal to interfere with or disturb bats. The fine is up to £5,000 per bat plus up to 6 months in jail. It is taken very seriously and it really isn't worth the risk. If they are roosting in your house and you want to get rid of them you must contact the Bat Conservation Trust http://www.bats.org.uk/ or your local SNCO who will advise you on when and how you can do it legally.

If it is just the bats flying which bother you, you can try to change their feeding paths. Insects are attracted to the light, and bats are attracted to the insects. So if there are insects congregating near your windows for example, the bats will fly low to catch them. One option is to put a night light up high on the wall, or in a location out of your way. If it is brighter than the light from your windows the insects will gather there instead, and the bats won't bother you when they feed.

I am quite literally thinking of doing that.
I am going to put 4 corner raised bed's
and a raised bed in the middle
and paving and gravel in between.
but can't do much at the moment because of the weather!!!!!
monsoon season
it's suppose to be summer!!!!
but it is too wet to be digging
as it would turn into a mud bath.
which I don't want.
but thank's anyway.

Don't some bats have rabies?

front gate
lamp post
have asked council to turn it off
can't do loft extension untill bat's have been removed/rehomed
by the right people.
have got a light at the back door
which I can't use because of the bat's
but they seem to have got worse since
some new flats got built behind me
and they have those stupid daytime saving light's that come on at 4pm and go off at midnight.
so as they live in my chimmey
they go backwards and forwards now from them to me in a pattern.
it used to be street lamp back door lamp back home
now it's flats and back home.
as I have all my light's turned off and just low lighting on when need's be.
I don't mind them it's just when they attack.

European bats can carry a form of rabies, but not the 'classic' rabies which is cause for concern. Even these other strains are incredibly rare in the UK (5 recorded cases).

Even if you did come across a bat that was carrying rabies, it would only be a danger to you if it bit you, and they are not aggressive (even when they have rabies), and would only bite if you caught or trapped them. As it is illegal to catch or trap a bat, the situation should never arise. But in the worse case scenario you did get bitten by a bat with rabies, and you manage to catch their strain of it, it is treatable in humans.

Being an ex-Londoner I'm not to familar with wildlife & was AMAZED one night when a hedgehog set off the motion sensor & tripped the floodlight out the back. DAMN was it quick, for some reason I though they were really slow animals like tortoises, LOL.
Wouldn't be too happy about the bats, urgh.
We had a frog in the garden last week & hubby made sure to move it out of the way before he lit the bonfire, hes like that, he catches spiders & puts them outside. Only thing he kills are flies.
