Anyone recommend a SIM free Nokia?

Hi all:

I want to buy my wife a new moby for her birthday.

My work phone was recently upgraded to a 6230 and I'm really impressed. I'd like to get her something similar with bluetooth, GPRS and a colour screen. Can anyone recommend a model.

She isn't a heavy user, so doesn't want to be tied to a contract. Her current tariff is an old Orange one. No monthly fee + calls billed via Direct Debit. Is a tariff such as this likely to support advanced features such as GPRS?

If it could, and we decide to stay on this tariff, where is the best place to buy a sim-free handset?

I would appreciate any help at all!

Many thanks

Steve

  • I know that you don't want a contract - but I think it would be rude to refuse this one.

There are several threads covering this offer - and you can get the Nokia 6230 for £27.50 effectively. Even if you don't want the 200xnet minutes - just replace with your wife's original SIM (its on Orange). A £170-£180 phone for sub £30.

The deal is cashback - but CPW are good for this.
The structure is £75 up front from CPW then 3 payments of £60 at month 4,8,12. The DD from your bank would be first 3 £15 then 9 months @ £30. So £315 paid out - £255 received = £60. Trade in an old phone for £20 and go through Rpoints for £12.50 and its down to £27.50.

    just to note:
"sim free" is a mobile that is as it left the factory with no network branding on box or housing or in the software.
you will pay a premium for this as they are not subsidised by any networks.
i think what you are asking for is "pay as you go" if your looking at nokia just get whichever network is selling the cheapest model you want (orange are selling the 6230 for just under £150) all the nokias can easily be unlocked for free (except 6630) so you can then use any sim you like

Don't give up that OVP Virgin contract; it's no longer available

Orange won't offer any handset deals on that though; either get payg and swap SIM as drahcir says, or think about cashback deal as well - if you do, see if you can downgrade the rental at 6 months to £15, then deal cost negative
