Hi
Ive been using Virgins fibreoptic inet for years and never had any problems. Ive recently bought a phablet and a laptop, mobile internet in my area is not brilliant.
So I am looking for a MSE unlimited internet solution for all 3: PC, laptop and phablet. Preferably I would like to keep fibreoptics for my pc as I am the 24/7 online type.
What options do i have ?
Thanks

Don't you have a wireless router from Virgin?
These days new VM installs come with their Superhub which is a combined modem/wireless router. Even several years ago they supplied a modem and a wireless router. If you just have the modem then the chances are you haven't spoken to them in years and in consequence are on some legacy product and paying over the odds for inferior speed and hardware.
You should be able to run a dozen devices of even the slowest of VM's current products so have no need of anything else.0 -
FYI, you don't have Fibre Optics, the cable that comes into your property is copper coax.
Aside from that follow the above advice. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks a lot kwikbreaks, I signed up with NTL in 06 and havent needed to talk to them since so a bit oblivious re whats happening at the moment. I will ring them but before i do i thought id ask as i wouldnt want them to flog me stuff just to get their commission ?
would they be able to send me one of these modem hub things free of charge ?
i dont use my landline (BT) and thinking of getting rid of it, if i do, then VM inet should still work as usual, shouldnt it ?
Just asking because a friend has inet from BT and thats linked with her phone somehow.
I will be moving in 6 months so if i switched VM products i would just transfer the service to my new property ?
Thanks a lot, i guess you can tell ive been out of the game for a few years and fairly clueless so grateful for any advise.Never trust any stats you didn't fudge yourself ;o)

Broadband generally needs a phone line, as thats how it is delivered to the house.
Virgin are the exception, as they use a different network and deliver broadband via cable (same as their tv).
You can get rid of the phone and still use broadband, but the cost of the broadband will increase as you usually get a discount if you have phone too. If you dont have TV, then it will be cheaper to get rid of the phone.
Virgin will most likly upgrade you to the superhub, especially if you have a fairly old modem, im surprised they havn't already. You may be put in a new minimum term (usually 12 months). This shouldn't be a problem if you are moving into a house that can have virgin, but if not, you may have to pay an early termination fee0 -
Ah - you have a BT phone line - that sounds like you have Virgin National ADSL which they don't sell any more and not the cable service. This begs the question why do you still have a BT phone line?
What is the name and any model number of the modem/router/whatever that you connect to for your internet service? Does it connect to the phone line or is there a thick satellite style cable and connector?
If you are on cable then you should be able to upgrade from whatever you have and get a Superhub for probably less than you pay now and certainly less if you ditch the BT phone. The potential fly in the ointment is if you move outside a VM area for the reason given above.0 -
Im not at home at the moment so cant check the numbers but theres definitely no connection to land line and its a thick cable so should be ok fingers crossed. Thanks for your helpNever trust any stats you didn't fudge yourself ;o)
