they look lovely Richard but out of their budget I think. I've seen some places which would work out about £120 each for the week and I think these would be about £170. We would probably pay the extra for the comfort but they want as cheap as possible.

Depending on how much of a 'good time' they want I think Salou would be great. I have been several times through work and also with my family and we have all enjoyed it.

There's loads of bars and several clubs so they would be able to have some good nights out and enjoy themselves. I know it's your son and you may not want to consider this, but if they are going to have fun with the ladies then Salou may not be the place! There are groups of younger boys and girls at that time of year, but not as many as you would get in say magaluf or the greek islands. There's no doubt they would have fun, but may not get as many notches on the bed post as they would in other places. More reason to stick with Salou in my opinion though!!

It is pretty cheap, lots of familiarity as most pubs are british and sell british food etc which might be useful for them at that age. Flights are cheap and short, as is the transfer if you fly into Reus. Fly into Barcelona and you're looking around an hour. It isn't the prettiest place in the world, but it is what it is, a cheap resort catering mainly for Brits.

In terms of where to stay, Salou is really easy to get around and they should be ok wherever they are. Plaza Europa is the start of the main strip of bars and restaurants so anywhere around there is ok. Try the Internacional 2, CYE Salou, Festival Village and Siesta Dorada all of which are cheap and cheerful and some have 2 bedroom aparts too.

If you decide against Salou then I would also suggest Benidorm, Albufeira, Lloret de Mar, Laganas (Zante), Malia (Crete), Kardamena (Kos), Magaluf, Kavos (Corfu) or Ibiza although that is costly.
I know his friends have paid £500 for a week in Zante, but you can get a week there for around £400 each or less if you look around.

thanks that's great information. No I think they just want to have a good time going out with each other - there are 4 girls and 6 boys and they would like to stay in 2 separate rooms/apartments if possible. Some have partners who aren't going and they don't seem to want all the stuff you see on the Magaluf weekender type shows - just a good time with each other before they go their separate ways to uni or jobs (or the dole unfortunately)

I went to salou 4 years ago when I was 26. We weren't looking for an 18-30 holiday but wanted somewhere with a good night life. In comparison we went to sunny beach last year and it was as bad as the channel 4 programme made it out to be. So if your son and friends want somewhere with a good atmosphere but none of the idiots you get in shagaluf then I'd say salou would be a good choice.
  • I myself am an 18 year old girl who as a matter of fact just booked my holiday to salou just a few weeks ago!

I have been their 3 times before with family and now im returning with friends and i must say, SALOU IS THE PLACE TO BE!
There are many pubs and nightclubs, the atmosphere is always electric, we have booked ourselves into the Internacional 2 from 18-25th june. We booked at this time because its way cheaper and were getting our holiday for a total (flights and accomodation) 250euro! amazing. Were flying in Barcelona and going to get a transfer from there. The place is buzzing with loads of people our age but is very safe and not as brash as places such as Magaluf.

Portaventura night tickets are available from June 21st. These are half the price of the full day (20euro) and i think even better as its much cooler during this time and not as packed so your not in line for 40minutes.

On June 23rd, In Spain they celebrate St. Johns Day, which is the shortest night of the year, this night consists of fireworks and partying until sunrise, which brings many young people like myselves to come during this time of the month.

10 minute drive away from Salou is a Chained nightclub called ''Pacha La Pineda'', Its one of the words respected chain of nightclubs and has world renowned DJs playing in it on a regular basis. They do Buses all through out the night/morning to this nightclub from salou for under 3euros. This is a great opportunity for them to expierience abit of Ibiza just a short drive away.

So i would highly reccomend coming here as it IS full of young people and the main nightlife scene is right beside the beach with many lubs and disco bars that go on til 6am. Its cheap and English is spoken throughout. If they want two apartment Inter2 is great as they can do them for so cheap!

I would say this to your son and see what he thinks! goodluck :)

Salou was ok when we went a few years ago, but I would of thought Benidorm, Majorca or even Malaga would be better suited (much cheaper eating and drinking generally if they are on a budget). We went to Salou during July and it was very family orientated and expensive for food and drink compared to everywhere else I have been since then. We had a nice time, but I wouldn't go back.
