Who said anything about a local authority paying? It's not uncommon for firms to pay a relocation allowance if they want to hire the right person for the job.

The job is with a LA.

    Position is for a LA.
The presumption is that in this instance LA stands for Local Authority. I guess it could be Legal Assistant, but since a DBS check was required the former seems more likely.

I'm surprised this took so long. I've had a couple of DBS checks done in the last few months and they've only taken a couple of weeks.

There's no upper limit to receiving back a DBS... there's a 60 day limit but once it hits day 60 then the DBS gets checked on a weekly basis until it is completed.

I was originally told the percentages on how often they come back... one week, two week, four week and 60 days but mine never. It was stuck on the police stage for a long, long time.
  • If you applied for the job knowing the location, I don't see why local authority money should be spent on paying this, especially when you are not fully moving there.

I appreciate that if you were already employed by a company and they asked you to move then this would be fair but your scenario seems very perverse to be expecting anything to me..

    I'm not 'expecting' anything.

    Thanks!

I am professional level, but i'll be just renting monday-friday away from home. I'll give a go and see what they say :/:)

So you are not relocating....you are just working away from home mon-fri. It's expenses you are after then, not a relocation package...you would have to ask if they are prepared to pay you any expenses towards either a B&B or maybe mon-fri-lodging. I would of thought this would of been mentioned during the interview process or at offer stage, if avaialble.

It is for a local authority... some would pay for relocation but like others have mentioned, it is a resource that may be better used on other means.

I've decided not to raise the question with employer.

Thanks for the help, that makes sense... my plan was to stay mon-fri but i'm not sure if that could extend to weekend. As i've just wrote above, i've decided not to ask for any support.
