I have just noticed that Plusnet and BT are projecting a speed of 17.5 to 19.5 for my connection on ADSL (recently they were showing between 7.5 and 9.5). Does this mean that if I request Sky to do the 10 day reconfig I should get a faster speed (currently 5 to 6 with Sky). It seems something has changed since I moved over to Sky from O2 in late Dec such as a faster BT wholesale ADSL connection (can't get fibre).

Looks like you have a noisy line.
With a 36db line you should be at least 10 - 12 Mbps.
As you can see from my stats I get around 10mbps on a 43db line.
Is the router plugged into the master socket?
Are there any clicks pops or buzzing noises on the line.
Do you have extensions wired to the master socket. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

I don't hear any clicking or buzzing sounds, no extensions and it is plugged into the master socket. As I was Saying I think something has changed re speed since Sky set my line speed. Should I ask Sky to reset the line speed?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Your router is syncing at its optimum noise margin, which points to a line fault. So there is nothing else connected to your phone point?
But get on to them by all means, and report it.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I think I know what is happening to my connection. I transferred from O2 to Sky with the buyout, I was previously on under 8kbs with O2 presumably on ADSL max, Sky have just carried this on. I am on a cheap deal with Sky (£5 a month and £40 cashback) for the first year, then presumably £15, so when this is up I will transfer to Plusnet (higher speed on ADSL2+ and a cheap introductory deal) although I will have to transfer my line rental from Primus (currently only around £7 a month).. Thanks for your help I have learnt a few things there.
