Was it a legitimate auction house that sold this? Sounds more like a 'fake' auction with a few high value items sold, then a load of generic no name items sold at inflated prices as people think getting a bargain (especially if they had a 100 to sell?)..

Agree with the above posters, I still don't see what the auction house has done wrong. The goods are normally sold as seen, and a laptop/notebook/netbook comes in many guises.

You yourself admitted that "you are not worried it doesn't do what its supposed to do". So the goods are fit for purpose. The fact there isn't any after-sales support isn't a good enough reason for refusing the goods or voiding the sale.

Was it a proper auction, or one of those "bankrupt stock" type things in a hotel, that often use tricks to confuse you into buying rubbish.

If the latter, then you were probably bidding against their own staff, and its basically a con-trick. Let trading standards know as they are often trying to catch up with these people. Other than that chalk it to experience and hope the laptop works for a reasonable amount of time.

I am still trying to understand this thread.

And I'm still at a total loss to understand what this has to do with going-out?

pogofish you asked what this has to do with going-out? Well you need a laptop to search for top Going-Out places.

Anyway if this was a mugs game auction then as Mallotum said the bids were there own colleagues bid to raise eyebrows and confuse people into thinking this is a bargain. We fell for this once about 20yrs ago never again.
But on anther thought why did the auctioneer replied back let alone refund. Confusing.

I think its because if you do silly things like this its best not to 'go out' but instead stay indoors it will be 'much cheaper':rotfl:
