Mobile contract with no credit history?

Hello! I'm moving to London and am bringing my iphone 4s. Initially I'm looking for a SIM only plan that includes lots of data and possibly tethering.

I notice Three have one month contract that might suit my needs.

I have a bank account set up in London but no credit history yet.

Are prepaid options only available to someone who has no credit history? What would you recommend I do?

mobile phone contracts are not usually difficult to get for someone without a credit history.
So you could just try for one.

a one month rolling contract is even easier to get than a 24month contract that includes a phone.

Have you had a look at giffgaff? Its not a contract at all, its a payg sim which you can treat like a contract (ie you can set up a monthly payment which automatically tops up for you and keeps your "goodybag" going, with no manual top ups required).

The only network which will give u lots of data is 3. and you should not have any problem if u have a bank account and a billing address.
What happens if you push this button?

In the event that you fail to get a contract, consider Three's £15 Pay As You Go offer. It gives unlimited data, 300 minutes and 3000 texts, and so long as you don't tether you should be fine.

    Good luck :)
  • SIM Only has high acceptance rate ~99% I believe. You should be fine if you have a bank account.
  • I would either look at "3" Pay As You Go or giffgaff.

"3" will be simplest as the iPhone will just work. For giffgaff you will have to enter settings as they are not an "official" iPhone carrier so the phone doesn't come with settings.

Also giffgaff doesn't support tethering iPhones (this is an Apple problem).

By implication you are coming from abroad. It would be worth checking that the phone is unlocked before you leave home.
