Orange PAYG Tariff

So I unlocked my 02 phone and done a factory reset and put a New Orange Payg sim in on sunday lunchtime and topped up £5 and all works fine and have not chosen a "plan ie dolphin canary or Racoon " so I guess im on standard Tarriff anyway used phone on Sunday for testing then not used since so ring 453 and Sunday balance was £3 30 then Monday balance £2 71 then Tuesday balance £1 06 then Wednesday £0 41 yes ive turned of background data and auto sync on my android phone sunday evening and not gone online or phone or text since sunday so why do they keep taking money . Is it because theres no standard payg tariff anymore also when I try to registar online with orange EE its says " number not recognised" Thankyou in advance

  • well first i would ditch orange and use something like giffgaff which has much lower PAYG rates than orange!

Something must be using data though. Double check your apps or email are not synching.
  • thankyou for reply

on sunday ive gone > account & sync and disabled background data and auto-sync

now today ive gone > wireless & networks > mobile networks > data enabled which ive now disabled so I will see what my balance is tommorow

yes I have three and vodafone and tesco ( tesco uses 02 network ) on 3 different devices but on sunday all of them went down except for orange hence the use of orange.

All the recent Orange sim packs I've seen have had a tariff pre-allocated.

I would suggest you check the pack with regard to that.

You can just get a free Orange sim from their website without linking it to an "animal plan". You can just pay the standard PAYG rates (which is far from cheap compared to other networks!)

If you use any internet on Orange PAYG standard you are charged 65p immediately for the first Mb even if you only send a single email or log on to anything at all.
So Orange PAYG is not good for smartphones as it is very expensive unless you opt for the Dolphin plan and put in £10 every month to get 1Gb plus 400 texts.

See the PAYG plans here -

I use Orange Racoon as an emergency back up on a dumb phone at 14p a minute but I never use internet with it because of the cost. I put £5 in more than two years ago and still have £2.38 credit left.

If it's costing you money without making calls/sending texts it would seem that your phone is using some data that you are not aware of.
