Emac service plan refund
Hi there,
Just wondered what people think of this.
We took out a car service plan where you pay an amount per month to cover a fixed price service on our new car at a Toyota dealership. We had paid in £100 to the plan and the car is due to be serviced in June. But we have just sold our house in this area and will be moving to another end of the country. I made enquiries about being able to use the plan elsewhere but they said it is specific to the group of dealerships so we would have to have a refund.
My issue is that the refund amount is £70 so of £100 I make that a 30% admin fee!! Seems a bit excessive. Also at the time of taking out the policy when buying our new car we asked and were told we could just get our money back if we moved to an area that does not have these dealerships. We did not anticipate moving so soon it was just a possibility at the time our house has sold very quick!
Anyway would be interested to see what people think.

What do the T&Cs state for early termination of the agreement as these are all that matter due to the fact you agreed to them at the time you signed up to the plan?
Any opinions of people on here are largely irrelevant, it's the T&Cs you accepted which matter.0 -
I too have just cancelled this policy early. Bought a Aygo from Yeomans in Peacehaven, was told this was my money and could get it back when ever I want. Toyota paid in 3 years servicing totally over £600 and I paid in over £300.
I've had 2 services out of this so there should be around £200 from Toyota remaining plus my £300.
When I cancelled it EMAC said a refund would be due and didn't mention any cancellation charges. Received an email from them saying policy was now cancelled and there is no refund due to "Management Charges"
So my estimate is they have taken around £500. I've asked them for a full breakdown of the account as I believe I have been mis-sold this product by Yeomans in Peacehaven and Toyota. It was only in October last year that I enquired at Yeomans about cancelling it and they repeated that its my money and can get it when ever I want.0 -
Hi everyone,
I know this is an old thread but i have come across the same issues with Toyota and Emac Ltd. regarding the cancellation of my service plan as the above users.
I have also been a victim of misselling! Toyota Marshall in Peterborough told me that the service plan protects any price increases and that there is no fee for this service, I wasn't given any terms and conditions at the point of sale.
I recently called Emac Ltd. to cancel my service plan and after much convincing they sent me a statement (after checking with Toyota Marshall Peterborough). The reason for asking this was because I suspected that there was some money missing and I was right! They charged me for Management and Cancellation.
These charges actually defeat the objective of fixing the service price in advance and you may end up overpaying due to the hidden charges. If you are thinking about this, think again! Don't do it!!!
Just wondering if anyone has had these issues and how they managed to resolve them? I have asked for a refund, let's see what they come back with.
Thanks,

What hidden charges? Had you not rescinded from the contract you wouldn't have incurred them0 -
I did get all my money back but had to write to them and cc'd in Toyota. Think Toyota sorted it out for me.0

At least the dealer didn't go bust. I don't buy them because this has to be a possibility. also because I want the flexibility to take my car elsewhere if the dealer servicing is poor.0

Hi Arcon5,
When I took the plan out they did not tell me about the management / cancellation fees nor did they give me any documentation that stated these charges. Hence my comments regarding the hidden charges. Had I known about these I would have wisely declined the offer.

Thanks Marlot! I never thought about it in that light. I will be careful what I sign up to in the future.0 -
Parents had a free MOT for life plan with VW. They never went bust but the chain got taken over and they were told they would no longer offer free MOTs even though the same people worked there.
