I just fixed my energy prices for a year with my current provider and got myself a £50 supermarket voucher, that will come in handy!Overpayments Target for 2015 £2170 / £8000 27.1%

Im enjoying a lazy morning at home as i dont have to be at work until lunchtime (i ended up at work until 2am this morning, not ideal but 2 hours overtime so im not complaining)
The grocery budget for the week is still on target despite DH randomly going and buying £5 worth of Cola while i was at work  However we will still be under £30 for the week so hes been forgiven.
DH has a job interview this morning for a temorary job up in London and also a phone interview tomorrow for a permanent job so we'll see if anything comes of those. I really hope he does find something before the end of the month otherwise we may have to stop our overpayments

Hi and welcome!
Hope a nice shiny new job comes your DH's way very soon.
And good luck with the overpaying, considering your savings toatl and your ages it appears you are both very money savvy already.
In terms of savings, there is definitely room to reduce your food bill. Meal planning and batch cooking helps me avoid the midweek 'I can't be bothered to cook, so lets blow £20 on a takeaway' feeling.
I like to have something to show for my money whether that's a new experience or a tangible item too. For instance, I would rather take my kids on a day trip then spend £60 on a meal out that we've done hundreds of times before (over the years). I would rather take my kids on an occasional weekend away than have a takeway every week. So although I am as capable as the next person when it comes to wasting money I try to avoid waste so we can still have some treats in life and achieve mortgage free status asap.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks for the welcome!
We are making progress with the food budget, made our first ever trip to Ald! today and got most of our shopping for just over £15, spent another £8 in another supermarket and I think we are all set for the next week.
To be honest we don't really get takeaways that often I think our major costs were branded snacks and drinks and fresh meat.
So far this month though we are at half our usual spend!
As for DH's job hunt, he didn't get the one up in London but he did pass his phone interview so he's got an assessment for that one next week.Overpayments Target for 2015 £2170 / £8000 27.1%

Did a 10 hour nightshift last night as overtime so that'll be a nice bonus especially with the nightshift premium and sunday premiums added on. Really tired now though as in total i worked 19 hours in a row!!
I really got back into nectar adpoints last week and managed to get the maximum 250 points for the week, gonna try and get at least 100 this week i think.
Also planning on getting some stuff on ebay again ths week, its been a few months since i last bothered and DH's completed video games are pilling up waiting to be sold!Overpayments Target for 2015 £2170 / £8000 27.1%

Just a quick update as there hasnt been much to report lately.
DH still hasnt found a new job yet and now only has one week left at work so its becoming more of a concern. We can cope financially on just my wage for a while but deffinately wont be able to overpay after next month.
I got paid today and because of my overtime and shift premiums ive been able to add £343 to this months overpayment which isnt too bad.
I recieved a cheque from the sale of my Grandma's house which i put in the bank today. She had to move into a home a while ago and since my mum and her sisters owned her house it was recently sold and the money divided between the 3 of them. My mum then split the money between me and my sister giving us £10,000 each. Its tempting to use some of this to overpay but for now im going to leave it in our 123 account and just use the interest to overpay.
Grocery budget is still on track for the month too which im quite proud of. Nectar points are boosting up nicely and i also recieved my £50 Sainsburys voucher from Sainsburys energy

Just a quick end of month update with my totals for March.
Grocery bill came to £111.48 in the end which was a massive improvement on previous months.
Total mortgage overpayment for March was £1505. Which consisted of £610 from savings, £650 from wages, £35 from interest, £130 from no council tax, £80 from grocery savings.
DH is now officially unemployed as he finished work yesterday, he's had quite a few interviews etc but no job offers yet.Overpayments Target for 2015 £2170 / £8000 27.1%
