Does the stuff still have the tags on?

They will probably refund, but I would not tell them the true reason and may go to a different store to repurchase.

There is an obligation if they have a returns policy, as that would form part of the contract.

I am quite sure that the OP didn't enter into a contract to pay more at a later date.

She is asking for the difference, as they have reduced the price.

There is no legal obligation for Sainsbury's to have to do this

Anything in there T&C's regarding returns policy is over and above what is stated in the SOGA. There is nothing wrong with the product, it is just that the price has come down and she wasn't aware of it.

Most probably OP will get the difference back, Sainsbury's is a good respectable co, who value customer loyalty. But the amount of times on here you see posters trying to get around well set up and stringent requirements, Just to get their own way, even though many times the suggestions given on this website are dodgy at least, Fraudulent a lot of the time. Taking a product back with no faults whatsoever, getting a refund and then buying the same thing again, is not really the right thing to do and not in the spirit of the law. The right thing would be accepting that you lost out and watching out for future sales where you can get a deal.

You have no legal right to the difference in price, it is only up to the retailer if they offer it.

The contract was complete at time of sale, OP bought at a price she was happy paying at that time. It will only be down to the goodwill of the retailer, if they give the difference back.

    There is no Legal obligation.

    Goodwill doesn't enter into it.

The store's return policy is part of the contract.

The store does have a legal obligation to refund the buyer if that's what their returns policy says.

Maybe you meant to say "there is no statutory obligation", as that is true.
But that does not remove the legal obligation from the store.
