I will recommend going direct to dealership. For eg if you were buying Nissan Cars, WLMG are really good. Also remember you will get better after sales service when buying from your dealership as agents/brokers may get the car for you from a far away dealership rather than a local one to you.

You will get the same after sales service even if obtaining the car via a broker. All servicing and warranty work can be done locally

Have used drivethedeal, broadspeed and orangewheels to buy cars, on those occasions local dealers couldn't get near the brokers price....once we haggled with a local dealer over the broker price, he said the car wasn't real...couldn't be sold for that price etc...only for it to turn out they were the supplying dealership!

Only recently used carquake to get a price on a new picanto and a part ex price on old car, used that to negotiate with a local dealer who as near as matched it, they had only 2hours earlier refused to budge on list price and offered very low part ex value.

After a lot of wheeling and dealing, I got what I think is a great deal from my local dealer, He sharpened his pencil to keep my business.

Am always happy to go local, in fact I prefer this. What I won't do is spend thousands more at a local dealership than I need to. I will always give them a chance to match or get close, the last one was only £50 dearer than the broker so was happy with that. But on other cars it has been a couple of grand more expensive to buy locally and I couldn't bring myself to spend that much more:eek:
  • I'm looking for a replacement car myself....done a lot of research on the various brokers out there. The one that stands out to me is Drive The Deal as they are the only one I can find that take no money themselves....I'm wary of paying for a car in full over the internet before I even see it where the broker has no physical dealership. I did ask buyanewcaronline if I could come and pick up the car with a bankers draft but this was not an option. These guys had the cheapest deal for the car I wanted but I'd prefer dealing with a dealership - even if not local. DTD were about £3k cheaper than my local dealer but £1k or so more expensive than buyanewcaronline.
Most of the brokers offer a driven-to-you delivery rather than on the back of a trailer (though they all seem to offer this option for a 400-500 quid). Not overly happy with that either as you are in an awkward position of having to inspect the new car (which may be dirty due to the drive to you) for defects whilst the chap delivering has either gone or is waiting impatiently. I believe DTD are operating through actual dealerships which means you can go to pick up from that dealer-might be a few hundred miles away but for a £3k saving I'd be happy to drive from Scotland to London if necessary!
I think next weekend I'll take a couple of the online quotes to my local dealer to see what they can do.
    Wish me luck!

I've bought two cars with DTD before and had delivered once and collected second time. To be honest i don't mind getting delivered as they have very careful drivers who deliver them at your door and also you can inspect exactly the same as you do at a dealer when it is delivered at your door. They will also valet the car from a local valeting place near your house just before dropping it. If there is any problem you can always call dealer before the driver leaves and i have found dealers normally very helpful as the manufacturers rate these dealers with an after sales survey(Nissan & Audi). I think their discounts from manufacturer is dependent on the customer survey, so they normally are very good.
  • Thanks Geek1981 for the advice. Feeling a bit more relaxed about a driven delivery now. My local dealer couldn't get close so I guess it's off to DTD. I'll post my experience but it'll be a few months before the car is ready sadly.

How did you get on with DTD? I am considering a new vehicle but what is really putting me off using them is that their website looks about 15 years old??

If they were that successful wouldn't they spend a few quid getting it updated a bit?

If the OP is not around anymore I would be happy for some assurances from anyone else who has used them. I had an experience a few years ago with a company who disappeared, and it always nagged at me that they had an old looking website. If you had long term plans then you would expect the shop window to reflect this. Maybe a bit harsh but I am looking for MSE assurances!

I have placed an order via DTD few weeks ago and order is already with the manufacturer, now waiting for delivery. DTD is not selling anything online and i don't see any point worrying why they are not updating their website. Using DTD second time and was very good experience overall. you can also check carfile.net which is another broker with similar pricing as DTD.
