What are the good theatre shows for children?

Hi I wonder if any of you have been and would be able to recommend any good theatre shows. My children are both primary school age.

Many thanks

If you are anywhere near Wimbledon the Polka Theatre does lovely shows for children.

Cannot recommend the Lion King enough. Especially if they're familiar with the story?

We saw the Horrible Histories Terrible Tudors at the small theatre near us. It was brilliant!

I would love to take mine to see The Lion King!

  • There's a theatre version of Aliens Love Underpants doing a tour and will be in the west end over the summer holidays - I really enjoyed it! http://underpantslive.com/
  • Another vote for horrible histories, not to mention horrible science! We've taken our girls to three or four and they loved it.

I'm not sure where you meant.
Unless there is a very special reason, I wouldn't go spending West End prices.

Just look at your local theatres and other community groups for children's shows. There are a number of touring companies who specialise in children's theatre and do shows at small venues, local theatres & arts centres etc.

Near us, all of the country parks have a good value outdoor show of some kind every summer, aimed at children.

They are usually small & friendly, I began taking my children to these sorts of shows over 30 years ago, and it was a great experience.
I just saw an advert for a show near us over half-term: £10 for 1 adult + 1 child gets you a craft workshop followed by a show, aimed at ages 5-10.

I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It's one of the best put together shows I've ever seen.
