We have any left over haggis mashed in with the left over tatties and neeps and then heat a tin of beans through it all. So, kind of haggis hash. Very filling - the kind of food that keeps you full for a very long time. In fact be careful and not eat too much as you tend to feel even more full an hour or so later! We don't have this very often but love it when we do.

That's interesting - mine is definitely sticky / gloopy, holding together in neat spoonfuls when dished up.

    How did you cook it?

<snip> Sadly, often the tinned rubbish is about the only type of haggis you can buy south of the border and I agree it looks and smells like dog food!

The Hall's ones you see in the supermarkets are nothing like the real McCoy, but where else can you get 454g of minced meat, oatmeal & spices for £1.67 or 2 for £3.00?
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)
  • Rob Roy steak ;). Top cooked steak with haggis and whisky sauce. Or deep fried haggis balls, either battered or dipped in breadcrumbs. You can also make haggis beignets, mix it with choux pastry, ball it up and deep fry it. Very naughty but extremely nice!

(yes I work in the kitchen at a hotel!)

Mix with the left over mash potato (and you can add bashed neeps as well if you like) stir in an egg to bind it, and fry large spoonfuls. It's called "clapshot"

I did it in the oven, wrapped in foil in a baking dish with a small amount of water - following the instructions on the packet. It wasn't hot at the end of the cooking time (1 hour at 180 degrees) so I turned up the heat and gave it ten minutes at a higher temperature - I don't know if that might have caused it to go wrong?

The haggis is now gone: I used one portion in a similar way to that suggested by zaxdog - cooked with tomatoes and onions to make a savoury mince-type dish - and wrapped the rest in puff pastry to make haggis sausage rolls, which were actually rather nice.

Thanks again for all your suggestions - I'll be keeping an eye out for another RTC haggis (albeit of a different brand) so I can try some of the others! :T
Back after a very long break!

Typing the response made me crave haggis chilli so that is what we are having tonight. Will try the mix with mash and fry method tomorrow for any leftovers ;)

I made Haggis Burger Stacks (steak burgers topped with Haggis and Peppercorn melt) in the air fryer
Chicken Balmoral (Chicken breast stuffed with Haggis and wrapped in bacon) is very tasty too.
