My campaign against Rich Dad Seminars

Hi All,

First time post, but had to bring something to light that I feel very strongly about.

I am sure many of you are aware of the Rich Dad Poor Dad book, but there are also seminars run in conjunction with this. Much like any honey trap, you are invited to attend a free two hour seminar on property investing (provided by an outsourced company called Tigrent). I went to one on Saturday morning. Here, they ply you with their own individual success stories and paint an incredibly rosy picture of how dazzlingly brilliant your life will be if you come along to one of their 3 day seminars. It's complete hard sell.

Next thing they do is introduce the cost. £997 for a 3 day seminar. 'Questions at the end!' they say with cutting sharpness every time a hand goes up, momentarily forgetting the flowery positivity they have shown throughout. But this is a one day only offer and if you don't sign up for that offer that very day you miss out. The reason it is a one day offer is because if people go home and think about it they might go on the internet and read some reviews, none of which seemed positive. It seems from the reviews that the 3 day seminar is merely a vehicle for another hard sell to free you of more money whilst interspersing it with fairly obvious advice. Nevertheless, at this point they invite people to head to the back of the room to sign up, and up many went.

You should know that parting with £1,000 of taxed income without being afforded the privilege of being able to ask a question isn't too fair. (Questions at the very end).

I will be honest, I was tempted such was the effectiveness of the person presenting. Fortunately a little voice in my head held me back.

When I went home and read the reviews I was most pleased that it did.

I wondered if anyone here has been stung recently.

anyone who pays that kind of money upfront , for anything of the nature you describe , probably does actually need to be parted with their cash anyway
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
  • I'm sure most people aren't daft enough to go in the first place. :D

So what does this campaign consist of?

Letters to newspapers and MPs? Alerting trading standards?

Perhaps joining a message board to admit you got suckered.
    Been away for a while.

Try gathering sufficient evidence to present to them in front of a roomful of would be customers at one of their upcoming seminars.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Look on the brightside, all you lost was several hours of your life that you'll never get back. Other suckers will have paid out £997 for a 3 day seminar.

You might be annoyed but gatecrashing one of their seminars won't really get you anywhere. At best the delegates will think you are a lunatic, at worst the police get called and you get huckled down to the station.

It's "Rich Dad, Poor Dad by example".

You, sucker, paid = poor Dad. I, on the other hand got you to give me money, hence why I'm a rich Dad.

Thank you very much for attending my seminar. I think you have plenty to reflect on.
Oh, and you can buy my book on the way out.
