Thank you for that saintjammyswine, I think I am out of touch with these things as I've previously been employed in admin roles for nearly 40yrs before being made redundant 13 months ago. I thought that due to my age (56) that catering might be an option to go into, but the adverts I have seen require a "food hygiene certificate" This has answered my query - thank you
I would suggest contacting your local FE College as many have funding which allows them to deliver Intro to Hospitality (& Other industries) training. This will typically include Food Safety, Customer Service, First Aid and some personal skills training linked with employability. They are usually in partnership with employers (we have worked with regional & national hotel & pub chains) who are recruiting locally.
They are a good way of getting into an industry where you have little or no experience and age is not an issue.0
