First house 2 bed terrace bungalow at 21
Second a 3 bed semi at 26
Third house 4/5 bed link detached at 45
Wasnt our intention to wait 19 years before move number 3 but didnt want to get another mortgage as had paid it off on house number 2 so waited to move till we saved up !
Will only move again if have to as this is our forever house and the stress of moving was so bad never want to do it again!0 -
Just one step in a long time! I bought this house 25 years ago (due to be mortgage free very soon). 2 up 2 down, mid terrace in a nice area and convenient location. It's just me here most of the time (lodger from time to time) so no real reason for me to move. I don't have kids so never needed a larger house and couldn't afford a larger house any way. I may look to move in 10 years or so when I'm planning on taking early retirement.
In my life time, family moved when I was 2, then again when I was 12 and my mother is still living in that house.Debt 30k in 2008.:eek::o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
Mortgage free since 2014

Childhood home.
First home a terraced house - we began to outgrow it with son #3.
Now in a wonderful big family home & likely to stay here til all sons leave. Husband scheming joint tenancy with a son & his family all here, but life not that cooperative - so sometime will have to downsize. (And I thought moving with 3 under 5 was bad. May have to do it widowed - ick.)
All plans around this time wide open to speculation, but I'm bad enough at moving (generally untidy being) that if I can sit tight, I will.
And finally, one size fits well enough for last journey.0 -
1) One-bed Victorian mansion flat - sold after two years when DS was born;
2) Three-bed, three reception Victorian terrace - we completely renovated and sold after two years;
3) Four-bed detached Victorian house - again we completely renovated and sold after five years;
4) Six-bed detached Victorian house - bought as four flats, we restored to single family home, meant to be our *forever* home - completely renovated and sold at age 40 in order to downsize and become mortgage-free after ten years;
5) Five-bed detached Arts & Crafts house with Tudor origins - we completely renovated and sold after three years;
6) (current house) Four/five bed attached Georgian thatched house - bought as complete wreck, currently in third year of renovating and planning to sell in order to *escape from the country* lol later this year
Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

1. First property, a disaster, a 3-bed maisonette in Mitcham, lots of negative equity, nice size but not much else going for it.2. Moved to Devon and with a negative equity mortgage got a 3-bed detached house
3. Had first child, decided needed more space and part exchanged for a 4-bed detached in a nicer part of town. Now mortgage free, 2 children, convenient for work and town so would hope to stay here for a while longer.0 -

we rented a 2 bed terrace until we had our second child. Then we bought half a 3 bed shared ownership semi

We've recently moved when child number 3 was 4 years old and the older two (9 and 11) were sharing a bedroom. This second buy is our forever home - it's huge - 4 bed detached with lots of living space and further scope to extended if we wanted to.
We were at our 3 bed longer than we expected (9 years) as it was either that and save a larger deposit or make an interim step to a smaller house - maybe a 4 bed semi or town house with less living space downstairs.
I'm glad we missed out the middle step as the selling buying moving process was so stressful and of course you have fees and stamp duty to pay out.
The next move will probably be a downsize when the kids leave home
hopefully a luxury 2 bed apartment
We had time on our side as we bought first at age 21 so had time to save for a bigger deposit to make the bigger jump. We've also obviously seen our earning potential rise in that time.
Very happy - apart from with the utility bills which are soooo much bigger!!!

More steps than I can count! Approximately:
1. Four addresses between age 1-18
2. moved to one bed flat rented
3. moved to two bed mid terrace - House No 1, aged 19.
4. moved to 1930s three bed semi detached. Forever home, job relocation moved us 250 miles within six months.
5. another rental 3 bed semi, brand new
6. bought 4 bed detached, aged 25. < 10yrs old
7. moved into "dream home" aged 29. 5 bed detached. Forever Home. 4th we owned - self built home (vendors marriage went awry)
8. various trips overseas and back involving several rental addresses, sold forever home and finally moved/downsized and paid off mortgage (age 34)
9. Period 4 bed period detached. 1850s. House no 5 owned.
10. relocated 300 miles south, rented 2 bed apart then got a new mortgage and moved to 5 bed Victorian semi detached (house no 6, next forever home)
11. Sold forever home six years later, relocation post redundancy
12. Rented 4 bed detached for 1 year in new area
13. bought 4 bed detached as hate renting. Current house. (House no 7 owned) Built 2000
14. Plan to move back nearer to home town, on retirement, probably 3 bed town house/terrace/semi. (built 1900 ish......)
Forever home was in 1993, but now 21 years later still at least 10 years away from what will really be forever home!!0 -
We're on our second house. We bought our first one and it needed gutting. It was awful. It was a nice two bedroom with a small garden but then we needed more space. We're now in a three bedroom with lovely sized garden. We've spent years gutting it as well!
We don't actually like where we live and have been planning on moving for two years. The trouble is our head is now ruling our heart and we can't justify spending another £80000 for an ex council house(which is exactly what we've got now) ten miles away. I never thought this would be our forever house but it's very convenient and we can make it bigger which would help when the children are older.0 -
