Great I'll take all these suggestions with me. How far is it to the coast? Would an afternoon do it?0

Dublin is on the coast...Dublin port and all that.
(That sounds sarcastic, but when I went to Ireland sailed into Dublin port).
A genuine suggestion, what about Malahide? Just up from Dublin. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -
Sorry, I know it's on the coast. I meant to visit somewhere else on the coast. What's at Malahide?0

Thanks for all these tips. We finally made it to Dublin. here are the highlights.
We stayed at the Gresham on O'Connell Street which was a great location for the open top bus and the airport bus.
Enjoyed all the main sights: Guinness tour and the Beef and Guinness stew.
Kilmainhem Gaol
The Book of Kells and the entertaining tour of Trinity by one of the students.
Lovely meal at The Storehouse in Temple Bar.
Lively music at The Temple Bar pub.
Cocktails at The Parnell
Didn't make it to the coastal resorts. We will have to come back!0 -

Glad you enjoyed yourselves and crammed a whole lot of sightseeing in:- next time you can see some of the coast and maybe go down to the Wicklow mountains or to New Grange (absolutely fascinating). I'm sure there are days trips available- not too dear ones I mean.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
